Griffith 500 Rear Tyres 245/45ZR16
Discussion
Hi
I am looking for a new set of rear tyres for a Griffith 500. It currently has 245/45ZR16 Bridgestone S01s. I have done some research and it does not appear that the S01s, S02s and S03 are all end of sale.
I know a number of people are fitting Toyo Proxies T1-Rs. I am a huge fan of these however I have only ever used tham on low profile tyres. I am concerned about the tyre wall flex on 45 profile tyres.
I have also read Steve Heath's bible which suggests that the Toyos may not be as well suited to the older TVRs due to a softer tyre wall and the fact they are not Z speed rated.
What is the general concensus with regards this?

S01's !!!!
Jeeez, they must be like rock's by now . . . Honestly, you could put Yongchang Nancock imported remould's on and it would perform better .. . They must be at least 7yrs old . ..
I've been through 3 sets of T1r's on my Griffith and I really like them, progressive, seem to suit the car, good in the wet. I've had S02's and S03's before and I think the Toyo's perform as well. They take some time to scrub in, you need to get some warmth in them to before pushing on and you can feel the softer tyre wall. They are quite sensitive to pressure (TVR's generally) but once you get the right balance for your driving style, susepnsion set up they are very good.
In 245/45/16 you can get them Z rated, it's only the 15's that you can no longer get Z rated. However, my Dad runs those on the front of his 450 Chimaera and his insurance company were perfectly happy with it, no issues.

Many thanks for the replies.
So Toyo Proxes T1-R seem to be a good option given the withdrawl of the bridgestone S03s.
I will also bear in mind that the car may not feel quite right with Bridgestones on the front and Toyos on the rear. I shall aim to match up as soon as the budget allows :-)
I have heard a number of people say that they increase the tyre pressure to compensate for the soft tyre wall, is this correct? If so what pressures do you run with?

Think I had a set of those on a mk1 Cortina once or they could have been nickhok yangchangs. We've had around 5 sets of Toyos now on the 500 which is used daily and they are very good tyres, way better than the SO3 and AVons which we've had on the rear.
I understand the T1R's are getting difficult if not impossible to source, i gopt some about a month back ready to fit after I had to wait nearly 3 montyhs for the last set so now order them well in advance.
26 rear, 24 front is a good starting point.
