Clive was made redundant from work so bought himself a second hand coach and then proceeded to go around Milton Keynes taking people about for exchange of monies. Thanks to the booming UK economy he soon had to get a bigger coach, which made him even more money ..so he upgraded again. And again and again.

Eventually Clive got a new coach which had an infinite number of seats on it. Great thought Clive, I’ll never be full and have to turn anyone away ever again. Unfortunately just that Friday an infinite number of people got on and sat on the coach.

At that point Clive spots another traveller at the bus stop and thinks he will have to turn him away. Clive stops and tells him that because of the coach rules

1. Only Clive can drive.
2. People can only sit on seats, one person per seat and no standing due to safety reasons.
3. He is not allowed to throw anyone off who has paid

that he can’t let him on. The Traveller says he can, and tells him how it is possible. So Clive does this and lets the man on to do his trip.

What was the travellers suggestion?

I’m aware there may be more than one answer to this problem apart from the one I was told!

Someone gets off the bus voluntarily, as he is at a bus stop?

Everyone moves to a seat numbered double to the one they are in.

It's a variation on Hilbert, isn't it?

The bus is a magic bus and grows another seat.

Everybody move back a row, there are still an infinite number of empty seats even with an infinite number of passengers!

It is indeed Hilbert's paradox of the Grand Hotel

Bingo, well done, and to the person who said the Hilbert hotel version.

Of course in theory he can let an infinite number of people on, not just the one, and still not be full.

Now, the main problem, how does he do a 3 point turn?

Clive realised that The Traveller being a traveller was not to be regarded as a normal person, so he let him sit on the floor.

Would I be right in thinking when Hilbert proposed his "paradox" the conversation was something like:

Hilbert:"Good Lord I'm so clever. I've invented a paradox!! "
Hilberts mate: "Go on"
Hilbert: "Right, so you've got this hotel. It's got infinite rooms. They're all full. OK?
Hilberts mate: "Aye, with you so far. I've got a hotel with infinite rooms"
Hilbert: "What happens if...get this...what happens <chuckle> if another person comes along, gosh I'm so clever, and wants a room?! What do you do?!?"
Hilberts mate: "Well I've got Infinity plus one rooms"
Hilberts: "You can't do that!!"
Hilberts mate: "Says who?"
Hilbert: "Me. It's not in the rules"
Hilberts mate:"Tough. Infinity plus one."
Hilbert: "but..but..but..you're not taking this seriously"
Hilberts mate : "Face it, it's a st paradox."

that's the easiest riddle ever. Is it a serious one? I thought of the infinitew amount of seats instantly, but though it was far too easy and obvious!
