Hi All,
Having purchased my S3 de cat part restored I have a question about replacement air filters.
The car came with the AFM removed and two K+N cone type filters attached directly to the plen camber. As such the Air flow is not monitored. Can anyone recommend a suitable induction kit? I dont want to replace the old filters with similar as I understand colder air is better and since these filters are placed right above the exhaust this may not be such a good place for them.
I still have the AFM so will it be a problem refitting it with it being electrically disconnected. If so can anyone recommend a filter for it?
Many Thanks
Neil

Neil, slightly confused, if you S3 has been decatted then it must be an S3c and therefore would never have had AFM's, But saying that you mention that you actually have the AFM somwhere Having purchased my S3 de cat part restored I have a question about replacement air filters.

If your car has a lambda sensor fitted to each exhaust manifold then it is an S3c which means the car never came with AFM's. If you have a K&N filter fitted directly to the plenum then it should run OK but is far from ideal as you really need a cold air feed like the standard arrangement. If it were me I would go back to standard.
Good luck with it.
Cheers.....Tony..
I'm even more confused now as to the originality of this car.I have two k+N filters mounted straight onto the plen,AFM in a wooden box that came with the car,old exhaust manifolds with Lam sensors in them also in the box. A new SS straight through exhaust with Manifolds which have no Lam sensors. Also to add to the confusion 2 X ECUs.
A Pic When I bought her last march

Also lam sensor wiring in the loom!
Help

Hi Neil
sorry if this sounds dumb but do you have AFM's in the box or do you just have the original airfilter, framework that supported it and perhaps the original intake pipes ?
take a look at TVRGIT's website http://www.tvrgit.com/ as he has an S3c and there's plenty of pics of the air filter and associated plumbing to look at.

No its defo an AFM, Pipercross Air filter fitted, Electrical sockets and two air flow pipes to run to the plem.
This car came with a lot of bits two starters, two alternators, two rads, two water temp switches with pipes, two rad fans, two hoods, two ecu's,even two engines the list goes on!!
It just makes me think the previous owner was monitoring the bargains on ebay and just buying anything with TVR S stamped on it.
regards
neil

If you have definatley got lambda sensor wiring in the loom then you MUST use the manifolds you have with lambda's in them, as someone else said the previous owner probably just bought anything TVR related and put it all in a box. So to recap.....................Help
Neil
1..forget the AFM's
2..use the lambda manifolds (obviously with correct sensors in them)
3..get yourself a proper cold air feed like standard
Good luck
Cheers.....Tony..

Spot on - any opportunity to dump the AFM's is worth taking IMHO.1..forget the AFM's
2..use the lambda manifolds (obviously with correct sensors in them)

If your lambda's aren't connected then your engine can't be running as it should - you need them connected, and its a far better solution than air flow meters as you're actually measuring whats coming out of the engine not predicting based on what volume of air is going in.
That will be ok but you will need to weld a threaded boss in the manifold to take the sensor.
Cheers.....tony..
edited to add that obviously you will need one each side and they go about where they curve downwards
do a search on here and you should find some pics

Just to clarify boys,
Forget the AFMs
Fit the lam sensors in the new SS manifolds
Which ECU sould I use since it will now have no CATs but will have Lam Sensors?
Has any one got the link to the wiring PDF file that shows the Lambda wiring and associated channels on the ECU.The diagram I have only shows the AFM wiring.A link to new Lambda sensors would also be very helpful.
Many thanks
