Who knows about 330D fuel system and codes? :-)
Discussion
Hello, 1st post on here, here's a good one to get ya'll started :-)
The car finally drove me to take the plunge and bye myself a Peake Research code reader, great bit of kit, very easy to use with a very comprehensive code book..... but
Where to go once you have the codes, I've got a BMW CD manual but can't get it to work as I have Vista Laptop (tried the retro compatability thing, no joy) ditching that software for XP next week.
So, here we are,
No power almost always from cold, after 5-10mins of driving power returns (or half an hour on the motorway), this can occur also when the car is switched off, for say 15mins then turned on and driven again.
Fault finding so far, clear codes, drive from cold until warm and then, when power returns, stop the car, read codes... as follows, Table 52 c1260 (fuel pressure monitoring) and intermittantly, Table 52 c3505 (glow device).
Clear codes (at a time, as above, when the car has full power) drive away, stop, read codes.... would you believe? all codes clear!
Do the whole lot a again, all codes return, and clear as above.
I have changed the fuel pump relay for a new one, there are 4 of the same light green ones, with the same part number, behind the glove box, I've swapped all of them, just in case I picked the wrong one, no joy.
What is the navy blue relay for, located in the sealed container, with the ECU?, in front of the windscreen LHS?
THE MAIN QUESTION, where to go from here, c1260??
Help... please
Thx Kevin.

Havent got my GT1 to hand at the mo, but the fuel monitoring fault can be one of several faults...What age is the 330?
1,On the pre 03 M57's the rail pressure sensor connector at the rear of the high pressure rail (closest to windscreen)had poor grade terminals, the resistance was too high and the connector would sporadically go open circuit...this would cause severe lack of power mainly from cold or overtaking. To over come this one there is a repair loom (although I had the last one from Germany 2 weeks ago)...Most dealers dont know about this loom as it is not on parts EKT, its on TIS.
2,you have replaced the relays, They also suffer fuel tank lift pump failure and or inline fuel pump failures...The high pressure pump needs to be fed a constant 4 bar pressure...If there is less then there will be a lack of power above idle and no power 3000rpm up. There was an issue in 03 with the in line pumps failing all the time due to the fuel filter collapsing.
3,Excessive leak off from one or more injectors, quite often this ends up with a misfire , non start or prolonged cranking to start. basically there is an internal leak from high side to low side of the injector. Where the injector needs to build to 300bar pressure to fire it struggles to pass 100bar...The check here is to measure the diesel runoff.
4,Another common one although not obvious is petrol in diesel
Other causes of lack of power tend to be boost pressure related but they will leave a fault stating that...However it is worth checking the vacuum pipes from the turbo up and over the engine whilst your there.
If I can find out the code at work tomorrow I will.
The glow plug will either be the glow plug unit or glow plugs...This code is almost always listed on M57....Shouldnt cause too much grief as glow plugs to day are more related to emissions from cold as opposed to starting the engine (on traditional dervs the glow plugs were used to help atomise the fuel for burn, whereas high pressure systems inject the fuel at such a pressure it is already atomised).
The fuel pump relay was the green one left of the orange relay.
The Blue relay in the E-Box is the DDE activation relay...If the engine starts its ok.

Wow :-) that is some info, gonna have to read and inwardly digest that a few times!
Thankyou
I've still got some thoughts its a temp related fault, its definatly there when the cars cold and it goes when its hot, and the time the power takes to come back when the car is switched off and started again and run, seems to be directly related to the time the car's had to cool down.
What i need is a wiring diagram of the fuel system, to see how the temp of the engine/water is linked to the fuel system operation. Although, as you are saying, there is also a load of other stuff to check, I guess once the fuel pump is ruled out I can move on to the other parts.
The under seat pump, is it a constant output pump or does it take its signal from other sources in order to vary its output? (just re read you text, constant output)
How's the leak off test done? I'll do some searches!
i've been looking on the net for some way of inexpensively measuring the fuel pressure, direct reading gauges are ultra expensive 100, pounds plus, but I've found a 30 pound tester that clamps around the electrical feeder/sender cable and gives a digital readout, have you heard about this kind of unit?
Thanks again for your help with this, hope to hear from you again,
Kevin
Oh, its a 2001 184hp tourer with 175000mls!!! :-)
Thankyou
