Hi Everyone,

The warranty is due on my M5 in January and have just had a letter from my dealer. It offered the following costs: Comprehensive £835, Named Component £706 and DriveLine £557.

So, always best to shop around, and I've found £325 (inc IPT - whatever that is) at http://www.click4warranty.co.uk/ (term 12 months, and max claim £5000). It seems very cheap doesn't it? Can anyone see, or think of, any problems:

It's their 5-star warranty (as opposed to their 3 and 4 star one) and comes with the following description:
"over against breakdown due to WEAR & TEAR included as standard
"Wear and tear" is the expected reduction in performance of a part due to the cars age, mileage and/or use. Many companies exclude it, others charge a premium to cover it. All our policies cover breakdown of an insured part attributed to wear and tear. ... more

No increase in premium for high mileage cars
Most warranty providers penalise high mileage car drivers irrespective of whether a claim is made or not by charging more for the warranty. Click4warranty don't, instead we require a contribution toward the cost of repairs in the event of a valid claim. This is known as "The Z Scale" and means instead of paying a premium loading at the outset, there is a contribution for "betterment" in the event of a claim. Not unreasonable as the car is in better condition than it was before

Parts and labour covered
Your Click4Warranty policy pays toward the costs of parts and labour for repair or replacement of an insured component.

Choice of claim limits
All Click4warranty policies have a choice of three substantial claim limits, &pound3,000; &pound5,000 and &pound7,000. This is the maximum amount payable on each and every claim.

Unlimited number of claims.
You can make an unlimited number of claims and we will apply the single claim limit to each claim. The maximum amount we will pay "in total" during the term of the policy is set at the Glass's Guide retail value of your car at the time of claim.

Cover from day one
Sudden, unknown and unexpected failures are covered from the day your policy starts.

No annual mileage restriction
The Click4Warranty policy has no limit on the annual mileage you drive. Your car will continue to be protected by a Click4warranty policy until it has covered 150,000 mile

Claims handled over the 'phone
All you need to do is pick up the phone and call us. To keep the process quick and simple we process everything over the 'phone. ... more

Claims settled directly with the repairer.
Wherever possible, to avoid your being out of pocket, we will settle authorised claims directly with the repairer. ... more

Vehicle Recovery included
Up to &pound100 towards the cost of recovery to the repairing garage

Replacement Car Hire included
Up to &pound30 a day towards the cost of a replacement vehicle while your car is being repaired.

Overnight accommodation and rail fares included
Up to &pound60 towards hotel expenses or a return rail ticket.

European Cover included
Up to 60 days cover for driving in the Republic of Ireland and mainland Europe

Clear and definitive Terms & Conditions
In 2003 the Insurer saw an opportunity and became a partner, immediately providing us the enviable flexibility to write terms & conditions that are clear and definitive.

21 day money back guarantee
Unlike other providers we allow you 21 days (not the standard 14) from the date the policy was purchased to cancel your policy and receive a FULL refund.

Cover may be transferred to new private owner
A warranty is a valuable selling tool if you decide to sell your car. The warranty may be transferred to the new owner, simply call us to request the transfer and we will transfer the balance of your policy to the new owner. We do require a &pound25 contribution from you toward the administration costs. Conditions do apply (for example we cannot transfer the policy if you sell your car to a motor dealer)"

The policy covers the following:

You'd be crazy to consider any warranty other than the BMW one with an M5.
Bite the bullet and pay up - go for fully comprehensive, you won't regret it.

Every other warranty company I've encountered is a pain in the backside to deal with - they try to wriggle out of claims and often won't pay dealer labour rates. And with a £5k limit it may well not cover you if the SMG or engine goes bang.

Most people looking to buy an M5 will want a BMW warranty so it'll help with resale should you decide to sell.

Given the complexity and value of the car I think it is a crazy decision to renew anywhere else other than directly with BMW.

£900 a year is less than £80 per month or less than £20 a week - not even half a tank of fuel......

only on the standard manufacturers warranty, the extended warranty is different, they can apply whatever conditions they like.

BMW's extended warranty is not with BMW the policy is with Mondial Assist so in reality you are dealing with a 3rd party just like any other warranty company.

I did a lot of research into this for the E60 M5 I bought a month ago and I would seriously not buy any other warranty than BMW.

I actually went to BMW and they explained how it worked with the BMW (Mondial) warranty, take the car in, they fix it, you get the car back and pay any excess.

They then explained how it works with "all the rest", BMW would look at it, provide quotes to the company, they would then decide if they were willing to pay, which 9/10 times they would certainly decline the cost of labour (£100+ an hour), so you'll end up taking the car to your local Unipart garage and having their guys fix it.

When you're talking about a car with a retail price of £70k do you really want to save £10 a week for a cheaper warranty??
