I'm going to buy either a 360 or 430 spider (as detailed in my previous post) - should I be put off by "high mileage" cars ?
I've seen a number of ads for both 360's and 430's with mileages approaching high 30,000's or early 40,000's - on the basis that from the 360 onwards Ferrari seemed to build more "useable" cars which were far more likely to be driven on a regular basis is there any great detriment to buying a car with higher mileage ? (other than of course the potentially more limited market for re-sale)

Does anyone have a car with "high" mileage who could offer comment please ?

priced correctly could be a good purchase. 430 prices seem to differ per 5k mileage increment. buy cheap, sell cheap after and hopefully lose nothing much at all

If this helps I bought a 360 spider 3 years ago (3 years old then) with 24000 miles on the clock. Kept it 2 years in which time I did 13,500 miles and it never missed a beat. Only had service and tyre costs. When serviced the mechanics all said the same "drive em they love being used". Comment about buy cheap, sell cheap is spot on. You get less for it when you sell it with high mileage but I reckon I only lost same over the purchase and sale as I would with low mileage.
Good look in your search. Nice problem to ave!!

bought my 360 with 7.5k on the clock. it's now approaching 38k and it drives much better now than when i bought it.

get one with history and get it checked.
The ones that are driven tend to be more reliable.

It's a bit of a difficult one. Ferrari's now a days are made to last and the myth that they can't do more than 20k is simply that, a myth! The problem is however, that although most of us realise that MANY MANY MANY others don't. So if you buy a cra with 40k on it do 10k yourself, suddenly you have a 50k car with a very limited resale. Dealers aren't really going to want to take it, so you will get a terrible P/X. You could of course sell it privately and to be honest, as already said if you buy cheap, and sell cheap you should be fine. As long as you remember you will have a very limited market.

What I'm saying is that the car no doubt will be fine, but selling it on will be more hassle, but not impossible.

Hope that helps, let us know how you get on.

Mileage on 360's is not a problem as long as they have been serviced regulary, we see signs of accident damage accross the whole age / mileage range.

Higher mileage will have a cost / resale effect but Ferrari's in general are sold on Mileage, history and condition, and prices should reflect any area that is weaker than another. Do not get caught up in 'the just because its been used it must be a nail' routine as you will need to route out the poor cars but their really are some excellent machines out there that have been used that really make a sensible buy.

Interesting topic.

I was at a Ferrari main dealer yesterday and when I mentioned I wanted a 430 to do 18k miles next year in he basically said I must be mad. His rationale was not on running costs/reliability but in his opinion any 430 with 25k miles plus on it will be virtually impossible to sell.

Would be interested to hear from anyone that has sold a 'high' mileage 430 and what they got for it versus one with average mileage (i.e. 5k miles per annum!)

It may be impossible for him to sell but I doubt it .....any good condition high mileage Ferrari will sell if it is priced accordingly.

I have had a 355\360 and a 430. They are all awsome cars but not for every day use imo. They are all difficult to park and not ideal in traffic. You also need to be very careful where you park.

Bought mine with 20,000 miles on the clock. Its now on 80,000! yes
Get it looked after once a year by a decent indie and mileage is not a problem - even for an 8 mile commute daily.

Nice one -aside from the annual servicing have you had many issues with it i.e clutch/brakes etc etc ? How does it drive with 80,000 on it ?

Just bought a 16k F430 Manual for 68k, its no bargain but I cant imagine it being worth much less than 65k next year with 20kish on it..
As said before, do your homework on current values then; buy cheap, sell cheap..

No issues. Just changed the clutch for the first time having done 50,000 miles on it(manual) Have changed both manifolds recently (just wear and tear) other than that just Pads , discs, tyres plus suspension bushes and engine mounts once and one drive shaft, again all just wear and tear because I do lots of milage. According to many people it drives better and is tighter than many 20,000 mile cars. It has never let me down even once which is more than can be said for the 3 TVRs I had before it nono
