Discussion
"Today you have the first opportunity to contribute to the You & Yours Listeners’ Manifesto. We want your views what you think it will take to get Britain’s road moving again. Do our drivers face too many taxes, and have we got our policing priorities straight? What should the Government do to improve the lot of the British road user?"
Just heard a caller suggest that fast cars should be banned from sale. *scream*
And, as usual, they had a loony lentil banging on about speed and nothing else, but no-one to balance him.
To increase your blood pressure, go here. Make your views known...

Caught last 15 minutes of the lentilist drivel! My blood boileth over too!
The plank they had on the show was extolling the virtues of including third party insurance and car tax in the price of petrol! Well, that means the yobs will fill and just go! Even more so than they do now! And what about those of us who pay through the proverbial for fully comp? Note that in defence of the insurance cost within petrol cost the plank of wood on the prog said "this would offer compensation for victims!" Thought that was the point of the increased fine?? AH! we pay TWICE! AGAIN!!
Where do they get the numpties who e-mail from? One said ban fast cars. Another said we should all be banned and retested for any minor offence? Another suggested "loyalty cards" for using the bus which we could put towards future bus rides. (In fairness, she did suggest using towards the cost of petrol as well!)
Another called in suggesting a retest every 5 years for life and an annual one on reaching 60. Given the standard on the "For Fun Men v Women Driving Theory Test" last week in which only 40% of the people playing for the car passed, and 50% of the audience, then there is a valid point here. (I have RoSPA, by the way!)
The oik on the show said that we "kill children by our speeding!" and "Most accidents are caused by speeding!" If little Johnny just runs into the road, he could be killed or seriously injured whatever the speed. There are such things as parental responsibility and the GREEN CROSS CODE! Our kids are simply not allowed to play out on roadways! We allow them out unsupervised only when we are convinced they can use the Green Cross Code too! This Code of Practice also applies to cyclists and adult pedestrians too!
The final contributor said he had been involved in three accidents, none of which due to speeding. He was still receiving treatment for the last one! My own accident was due to someone being taken fatally ill at the wheel of his car. My eldest cousin was killed when an articulated truck with defective brakes and tyres ploughed across the motorway into him. Again NOT speeding!
As for insurance he was on about...well, in my own case, the other guy's insurance company tried to squirm out of their commitments by suggesting that the chap had died before impact and was thus uninsured. It took 5 years of legal wrangling before I saw any "justice!"
I gather I can allow my blood to boil over again as transcript and audio version of this prog will be available on theR4 website provided by the first poster on this topic!
Some "Manifesto!"

That has to be one of the craziest things I've heard.

I would give enormous power to the insurance ombudsman so he could call the insuresrs and tell them to pay up or the chairman gets hung. It is disgusting that insurance companies are allowed to look for ways of avoiding paying. If the premium was paid then they should be compelled to pay a claim.

The plank they had on...........
The one and only "Professor" David Begg.
One minute Supercyclist and Edinburgh councillor, ridding the city of cars.........
Next minute, Professor and official advisor to HMG on all things transport........and, mostly, how to kill the car...........
Bet he goes to Mary's for tea.............
joke, Mary..........
