wet carpets

having problems with wet carpet passenger side both in footwell and behind seat. new elephant ears and velcro nice and tight on the sides so cant see water getting in there and there are holes in the seals that run on the bottom of the doors to make sure water can run off. the brake fluid reservoir and others in the bonnet look well sealed...but i dont think water is coming from under the bonnet as the carpets are dry at the dashboard end and when i pull the cover off where the battery is...that is all dry. kept on a hill but also been doing it when flat in same place. any ideas gratefully recieved!

Is the car loosing water from engine,(rad) could be heater matrix has packed up & leaking.....

I had this problem when i 1st purchased my Chim it turned out to be water soaking through the roof fabric where the velcro part is and leaking down behind the B pillar carpet section(the flappy carpet covering the catch mechanism)soaking the rear floor near the seat belt anchorage,resealing the fabric with 2 coats of weathershield put a stop to this problem without any other changes try sitting in the car when its pissing down you may see where its coming from

Do the holes in the seals go right through and are they on the corners - still suggests to me that it is overspilling over the sills, wet under seat is a sure sign of this.

sometimes these leaks can be difficult to find, especially if its not raining in the morning when you go to the car.

a technique i used ages ago, was to sprinkle flour around the area you think it might be coming in. as the water track across the flour it leaves a telltale line.

simples - but doesn't work on the carpet obviously

Do the door aperture seals have the little indents in them, if not the water will run over the top. Also check the door aperture seal furthest forward just as it comes down from the front window as it bends towards the front of the car and the goes along about 10 inches then bends downwards ( hope that makes sense). Its right in the footwell here and it can run down the seal and then go along the back of it if it isnt a snug fit can get leak into the car.

sorted...so simple i should have thought of this as first solution! I used fabsil over the roof and doubled up especially over the corner flaps...something i havent done for a couple of years i reckon. it had a good opportunity to dry off just before it started sleeting and raining yesterday afternoon and evening. checked this am and completely dry! yipee!
