Yes it's the weekly religious nutters thread.

I've had 3 this week. A record haul. Most are dispatched with a simple "I'm at work you know. I don't have time to talk to you. Goodbye."

Todays however was a bit more interesting. I'm loading a bunch of old stuff into the car to take to the tip. Nutter wanders up:

Him: Hi
Me: I'm not going to be interested
Him: You don't want to live in a world where we're all at peace?
Me: Sure, but I'm not the person you need to talk to.
Him leaving: You're a very strange man.

Me! I'm the strange one...!

Several years ago, I manipulated the doorstep conversation with a JW to the degree where he insisted quite vociferously that he would let his daughter die rather than allow a pretty straightforward medical procedure to save her life. She was with him at the time, aged about 12, she was not best impressed with her dads reasoning. Hopefully I planted a seed of thinking for herself there.

I get rid of them quite easily nowadays, I fix them with a menacing and steely eye (sorry, bit of hyperbole there hehe), and coldly inform them that "You don't really want to engage in debate with me, you might lose your faith, and you wouldn't be the first".

I had one turn up at the house years ago when I worked shifts, I was on nightshift and the bloody doorbell was ringing and ringing, when I got up and looked down at the door it was a weirdo with a deerstalker hat on.

When I went downstairs he had gone from the front, but turned up at the back of the house.

He was advised that if he didn't get his fking arse off my property and never come near it again, we could see how much protection his snake oil beliefs would afford him from a bit of 2x2.

Funnily enough, I never saw him again.

Or alternatively the cheery 'no thanks, I'm with British Gas', kind of leaves them puzzled, as their programming does not allow for lateral thinking!

I knew someone who got rid of them by commenting in a broad west country accent "You wan know baaht gaaad? Oil tell you baaht gaaad, he lives in moi attic". Apparently they left quite quickly. biggrin

A mate of mine was bored when a pair of JW's came to his door - the first thing they asked was "can we just have 10mins of your time?", to which he replied "sure, as long as I can have 10 mins of your time afterwards". They agreed, and after he listened to them attentively, and the time was up, he led them through to his garden. "See those weeds, they need doing" and left them to it. Fair play to them, they did get down on hands and knees and pulled weeds for 10 mins!

He ended up feeling a bit guilty so made them a cup of tea. i don't think they came back after that though.

I no longer have any problems with religious types darkening my door step, one day the better half came home and told me they were doing the rounds so i had a feeling they might be coming, que knocking at the door then me shouting to my dogs (4 staffords) see those mother F.... off 4 bouncing barking fords seemed todo the trick they left in haste, the thing is the dogs get very excited but they love everyone but they can appear a little wild but that suits me i dont like uninvited visitors much smile

Why all this hostility to people that freely give of their time and resources to tyr and put a little joy and hope into peoples lives? I dont understand it!

Why not take a little time to listen, not just hear, whats being offered to you.

And before anyone asks yes I'm a Jehovahs Witness, very happy to be one too, and very happy to answer any 'sensible' questions you may have.

Why do you knock on peoples doors when they have just sat down to dinner?

Reread this thread.

Still think you're putting joy into people's lives?

What will you be driving at the end?

I doubt very much that you get any Richard Dawkins types knocking on you door? How would you react to that, especially if they were a bit pushy too, trying to engage with you in a specific attempt to get you to renounce your faith?

Somehow, I don't think you would appreciate it.

You are entitled to your faith, but share it at church, not door to door.

Because if we wanted to be jehovas witnesses, or wanted to learn more about god or any of the other crap you peddle on peoples doorsteps, we'd come to you.

We don't. If god wanted me to go to church he's make me. And if you quote the "free will" arguement then why are you trying to circumvent his design? Leave us to it.

In face, just fk off and leave normal people alone. Hostile enough?

Does it matter? I hope I'm not driving when the end comes, however it comes.
