Cheryl Cole: emperor's new clothes here

She is a very good looking, mediocre singer who lacks a bit of personality beyond 'toilet assisant bashing geordie girl you could have a beer with'.
FFS who gave her a Saturday night spot to showcase her diminutive talents and phone book?
And make sure that she doesn't present said programme, but is talked through it like a chat show guest by some equally vacuous non-entityFFS who gave her a Saturday night spot to showcase her diminutive talents and phone book?

You may not like it and want to pretend its some intellectual test to attack some show that you personally dont like but its popular and SC is without a doubt a very talented bloke in all sorts of areas.

Do you think that Iceland is the height of culinary sophistication? If so, you'll like utter drivel like X-Factor.
It might be popular, but that doesn't make it anything other than complete trash.
Cowell is a smart man undoubtedly. He created a new tax without anyone noticing. Voting for talentless morons on a talent show should be known as a tax on the terminally idiotic.
It is awful television. Bright and flashy, but completely without any merit other than as a vehicle to inflate Cowell's bank balance.
Good on him really, I bet he can't believe that he's getting away with it.

It's Saturday night TV, entertainment for the masses and it seems to work. Even people that hate it will talk about it an attempt to look good.. Ohh how I hate that.
Do you think the crews involved in the show think lets do this lets make s
t TV...?And I am sorry but talentless some of the vocals were not. Even i can see some of them can sing very well.
There are loads of more important things to get worked up about.

I don't find it entertaining in the slightest, but as I'm not a 12 year old girl, then I'm not exactly the target demographic. I do look down my nose at the program, not at the people who make it, it's the format and the premise of the series that I object to.
Some of them can sing, but so can thousands of others. There is alot more to being a musician than just being able to hold a tune. X-Factor is nothing more than an over blown karaoke night.
A talented singer is someone like a Tom Jones or Beyonce, not a bunch of warbling kids with no more talent than you'll find in your average pub on a saturday night.
I am an unashamed snob when it comes to crap like this. Not that ITV is ever a bastion of quality television on a Saturday night admittedly.
There are far more important things to worry about of course and now it's finished I'm very pleased. It's just very hard to avoid this sort of thing as the country seems to get consumed by this nonsense everytime it's on and I just find it very confusing and not a little worrying that so many people, who I assume have at least had a basic education and have an IQ that must at least be in double figures, find something so facile to be so important.
Someone I know paid nearly 4 grand for tickets for the final of the X-Factor. It seems that the rise of the moronic and the dumbing down of the population is nearly complete.
I don't watch X-factor really, I may stumble across highlights at 11pm but won't go out of my way to watch it and I certainly wouldn't pay to vote.
Whether you like it or not, you have to be amazed at how massize it has become. 10 million people voted in the final, that's almost the same as the amount of people that bother to vote for their government.
I'm not sure what the target demographic is supposed to be, but I know quite a few people I consider to be intelligent that are obsessed with it.
In terms of Cheryl Cole, she's hot and that is all that matters. Sex sells, blah, blah. Althought, TBH I prefer Dannie
Sorry people, but X Factor is here to stay at least for the time being.

Maybe its because im old, David Gilmour-musician, Mark Knopfler-musician, Elton John-musician, Freddy Mercury-musician, but Cheryl Cole? Simon Cowel? can you imagine how embaressing it would be to put either on the stage with a microphone and nothing else, no lights, no backing,
The iceland analogy is about right, there is music and then there is opium for the masses,
but yes, ruin her i would

There's no denying that Simon Cowell is a great businessman who knows how to promote his acts and provide what a lot of the general public want to hear. For those that don't like it (including me), just don't watch. No one is forcing you to sit in front of the TV on Saturday evening, and X-Factor isn't even paid for by the licence fee so you can't complain about that.
My OH likes the X-Factor, so we tend to record it while were out socialising and she will watch it on Sunday (fast-forwarding through the dull bits) while I'm out for a run or doing something else. Everyone's happy.
Cheryl Cole - talentless? Perhaps but then she's done rather well to maximise her income despite that handicap. Remember, there's no obligation on commercial entertainers to produce media of a certain quality, merely that they produce media that SELLS. People love to go on about "quality" programming - unfortunately that means different things to everyone, so what I think is high quality many others will think is dull.
Then you'll say the BBC's duty is to produce high quality programs - but haven't people also been ranting about the salaries paid to top BBC execs. If you don't pay top dollar you won't get top quality.
