I'd buy it for £5000 as a project car to rip out that pile of crap from under the bonnet and put a nice AJP back in smile

It just seems so wrong...

That's my point.

If I wanted (which I do incidentally wink ) a curvy RV8 TVR I'd buy a Chimaera, then at least I could take the bloody roof off!

For me the Cerb is the AJP - end of.

Not for sale again - this must be the 3rd time in 3 years they have tried to sell it.
I'd give em £4K and replace it with an AJP. If I really wanted a more low end torque kinda car I would change the engine for an LSx. Cant see the point in a rover lump in a cerb. Seems so wrong on every front.

For 5-6k a good car but 9K for half a cerb hmmm not to sure but if it had a blower it would be more fun.

But i do like it and the idea of it. i presume the enigine went pop and a cheap fix. boxedin

I'd wager most of the TVRs on the road are fitted with an RV8 of one sort or another, including the most successful models ever produced.

Yes it would be nice with an LS, IF you've the cash and the time, and ideally the original AJP, but a well-tuned cross-bolted RV8 (supercharged lick) will hold its own and probably still be doing so when less practical racing type engines have gone bang.

A perfectly good compromise for those who want a fixed head with those looks, on a budget.

Hmm...tempted to bid. smile

I agree whole heartedly. If it's Supercharged, it'll be quicker than most AJP engined Cerbs, and more reliable, PLUS it'll sound better.

And if you buy it you're bringing it on a hoon with me! biggrin

Certainly cheaper to keep up and running than a AJP service cost wise ect

And still keep the looks.

Its an utterly pointless car. From what I've seen, not only do the RV8 engined cars out there have their own share of problems, but most people who have never owned or looked into owning a cerbera have some ridiculous idea that AJP's are fragile engines. This could not be further from the truth. These are engines that take an utter battering, and regularly do mega miles with it. Obviously a few have had serious failures (what engine hasn't?), and all will need freshened up at some time, at which point some parts will be more expensive than for a RV8 engine (though don't forget that many parts (bearings etc.) are common to both engines). So, for what is probably a much smaller reliability advantage than most people perceive, you've got a heavier car with a less powerful engine, and one that will take major investment to be anywhere near as fast as the original model (you'll likely need your SC upgrade and then some). Not to mention the fact that you've already spent a large wedge of cash modifying the car in a way that most people will consider a retrograde step, as if nothing else it utterly destroys the character of the car.

How anyone could surmise that this was a good idea is totally beyond me.

All IMHO of course!

So what accounts for the oft quoted step up in running costs from Griffeara to Cerb then; if so reliable? The running gear is not so different...

More expensive servicing due to more involved and more regular valve shimming.
Items like throttle pots (not AJP specific) need regular maintenance and adjustment.
Electrical system is more involved than Griffeara - and not desperately robust - doors, heaters etc.
+/- 400 bhp eats up consumeables much quicker than +/- 240 bhp - particularly clutches @£1000 a pop.
IF it goes bang you can't get another one out of the nearest Landroverhehe
