Its my job to buy A large porker for Boxing day. Its difficult we requie quality, my local supplier has won regular awards, but like many butchers they cant cope with demand at Christmas and they buy in from other sources which are poor quality, any recommendations are very welcome.
Must be of coarse meat texture with jelly!

Patley Bridge, butchers on the main street do really good pies.
I'm in Leeds but always nip over for our Christmas pork pie.

It's what makes me proud to live in Yorkshire, threads like this (even if I am Welsh!)! Anyway, back to the subject ... if you are not too far from Otley, the pork butchers very close to the traffic lights in the centre (can't remember the name but I am sure it's got a green shop-front) has a wonderful selection smile

If you're in York today there's a xmas market on and one of the stalls has many, many fine pork pies on sale. Traditional and less 'normal' versions.

Hi John,
There is a local butcher near me in Stanley called Gledhills. I've seen up to 50 people queing up to get their pork pies in the bulid up to Christmas. I think he now runs an "allocated time of pickup" ticket type system to avoid this. The pies are lovely but I couldn't comment on the technical details such as the courseness etc. Its pretty close to you so you could always pop down and try a sample beforehand.

One of my subcontractors regularly brings hot pork pies over to site from Wilsons. Absolutely fantastic - nothing better for a cold day on a building site.
