... and I have given it a chance. Can I complain about the "new" layout?
Far too many subgroups, so that everything gets lost in "Plant Pots and Garden Ornaments" or some such absurdly niche section, while The Lounge seems to have become very cliquey - it's now more like a musty city centre pub with 3 or 4 old men snarling at strangers, rather than the P&P which was full of merry drunks holding forth on any topic that came up.

I think it is a good thing.
It is mainly down to a few individuals that caused it however
1) The "I was forced to read your thread" Nazi - no you were not, you chose to read the thread, the fact you did not like it was soley up to you. Now go and trip over a paving slap and sue or one of your other habbies...
2) The "This is a motoring forum" Nazi - yes it is, but also has a wide range of other topics and interests of other members who are more than capable of communicating those interests, without losing site of their principle engine interest.
3) People who really like watches. They got their own forum. Thank god.

I'll just add: I think the "new" forum layout with the forum "groups" is excellent. I find more of what I like more easily and put up with less of what I don't.
+1I also like the fact that threads 'hang around' for longer in each of the sub-sections. The old P&P used to almost refresh the first few pages every hour or so at peak times.
