Hello, I promised to post up some more details about the cabin we are having built in the garden - I've been keeping a blog at http://geekcabin.wordpress.com/

the team is turning up tomorrow to do the concrete pads, and it's being built 21/22/23rd Dec! so I'll post up details on the blog.

Toying with the idea of doing a time-lapse video of the cabin being built - yeah it's a bit geeky, but we're all blokes here right wink but will see how things go - lots to do!

Can't wait!

Had your blog on my favourites since your first post.... given me a few ideas for things to incorporate in my own renovations.

Just reading your blog, you really should have covered that pad with a tarp immediately after they laid the concrete. Heavy rain, or a sharp overnight frost, can damage the surface quite easily. And concrete doesn't 'set' overnight, but takes several days for the chemical reaction to get 90% finished, then a year or so for it to finish reacting completely. [/pedant] biggrin

Looks like a nice cabin though. How long until you start building a car down there. hehe

it's built and I've finally had a chance to put some pics up and start "moving in"

Electricals are done, if anyone near Orpington/Bromley needs an electrician let me know, this guy is local - he's not the fastest (semi-retired) but does an excellent job, friendly and reasonable

It looks much bigger from the inside!

I can't help but think it can't have much insulation in the roof? Do you know what they used?

I am building a summer house/office but it's only about half the size of yours. It's built on telegraph poles and a wooden base as 3/4 of it is 18" off the ground. (the ground drops away). I have framed it out like a house so i can put 100mm insulation everywhere, electric heat is expensive frown

Looks good smile A friend of mine has a similar log cabin "playroom".. I think they went Celotex in the roof, not sure about the walls.. Of course you did insulate the concrete slab as well didn't you??

re: Insulation, quality is your friend. Either Celotex or Knauf board (with the right amount of ventilation gap on top) or Crown Dritherm wool, 32 or lower.. You can then do away with the ventilation gap, fill the cavity with more material and achieve about the same insulation value for a lot less. Don't forget breathable membranes and so on and get it fitted with care and precision, taped joints, etc.. They will all make a cumulative difference.

22p per KWh? - I'm sure i'm paying 11p? - night time is even less.

here you are. I'm east midlands I think, ~11p day, ~5p at night.

Get a storage heater in there and run overnight at 5p per KWh
