oh buggery bugger. squirrel in roof?

right then. my designer(!) bungalow has got a roof where basically it's the joistthingys with insulation between them with marine ply underneath (rather than say plaster board and plaster) and then normal concrete tiles on the outside.
there are a lot of squirells around (loads of trees etc) and we think they may be in the roof. now reading on the interweb it seems as though it is mopst likely to be squireels rather than, say, 'rural-rats' because of the amount of noise they, periodically, make.
so how the feck do we get rid of them? because we have no 'loft' we can't really put traps or poison bvecause we'll have to take the whole effing ceiling down to find the bodies!
can we just try and capture them outside? something in gutter? some sort of electric thing? i kind of like squirrels and their larking about but i don;t want to keep being waken up and i don;t want the house to get an electrical fire...!

Spray deodorant or bog spray into the darkness. They'll s
t themselves and exit very quickly.
Also locate the "nest" in the loft and cover it in some stinky stuff. They rely on scent in the darkness, I think.
ETA: I suppose you could piss on the nest but it might result in leakage through the ceiling.

On a more serious note, there are devices on the market which scare vermin away by emitting a continuous high pitched noise. They work on pigeons, squirrels and most things furry (!) or feathered. The noise is way above what is audible to humans and the range/senistivity is adjustable.
I think farm supply shops are a good source for them. Worked wonders for a friend who had squirrels in the loft.

We had this problem, they're cunning bds!
Tried loads of different traps and sonic things, none worked. It's a worry though as they chew anything in site - years on I still find bare electrical cable now and again that has to be fixed up.
How did I get rid? It turned into a stake out in the back garden with an air-rifle waiting for them to go in/out. They got the message after a couple met their maker and not had problems since (touch wood)
Tip: watch for the recoil off the tiles, and have a large blunt object to hand to finish them off, air gun pellets only stun them

Someone a few doors up from us on the other side of the road has one of these to keep cats and foxes off their front garden. The loathsome screech drills into my skull every time I have to walk past it!
