brake light fuse failure

The break light fuse on my 4l chimaera keeps blowing. It is even blowing a 30amp fuse when the ignigtion is turned on. The old bible says that the brake light fuse is connected to the speedo and reverse light, but mine seems to be on its own. Any ideas as I can't get it looked at for another week. Cheers.

Check for a faulty bulb or a short in the switch. New bible has more fuse layouts to choose from BTW

Probably the switch. Down by the pedal - less than a fiver from dealer, p-o-p to fit.

Does it only blow when you press the pedal?, that would mean its after the switch. If the switch was short, it would have to be a short to chassis(very rare and i dont see how), as if it was just short,the lights would just come on. If it blows anyway and the wires are disconnected, its another circuit, or a wiring prob before the switch. I wouldnt try the bigger fuse route as the wiring will become the fuse ! The joys of TVR wiring.

Thanks for the replies. I have disconnected the break pedal switch and also the block connector behind the passenger seat to disconnect the brake lights. The fuse still blows when the ignition is turned on. Presumably therefore its not the switch or bulbs. Any further ideas?

If you have not lost anything else then i would run a new fused cable to the brake switch, that would also be a way of checking all is ok with the wiring "backwards".

Oh yeh - forget what I said. Brain in neutral for a while there.
