The sorry-you-were-out ninjas just struck again at my house.

That's another drive to the sorting office then.

It is very good so far - reporter is doing a good job at keeping it fairly well balanced.

My Dad got filmed the other week by panorama, it's about Lord Ashcroft, the biggest donator to the Tory party. Should be interesting stuff.

The BBC seem as keen and as desperate as ever to toady up to their nulab heroes, it was only a matter of time before they focused on somebody like Ashcroft - as opposed to one of Mandy's super-rich pals.

Yep, seems very like a pre-election smear campaign. It's in a place called Turks and Caicos, where Ashcroft has significant business interests. It's more to do with the amount of power he would have over here should the Tories get in next year. Still, the guy is a crook.

Do panorama not know how to do arithmetic?

One minute , they say they measure the postie's route using a pedometer. Not very accurate, but they say it was near 6 miles.

The next minute, they have a 'marine' saying he was walking at 4 mph, and it took over three hours.

So that would be 12 miles.

Simple checksum, really, so which is it? 6 miles or 12 miles? Idiots.

Oh, and 'Lord Sawyer', the author of a report into the post office years ago - presented as some sort of independent analyst...

wikipedia said:
Lawrence "Tom" Sawyer, Baron Sawyer (born 12 May 1943) is a British trade unionist and Labour Party politician. He was General Secretary of the Labour Party from 1994 to 1998.
Sawyer was educated at Dodmire School, Eastbourne Comprehensive School and Darlington Technical College.
After his education, Sawyer worked in engineering, before moving into trade unionism. He became a National Union of Public Employees (NUPE) Officer in 1971, becoming their Northern Regional Officer in 1975. In 1981, he was made Deputy General Secretary of NUPE and served through its merger to become UNISON until 1994. In this role he served as a National Executive Committee Member of the Labour Party between 1981 and 1994 and was made Chair of the Party in 1991.

You're mixing things up or you're misquoting. The PO said they should walk at 6.2km/hour which translates to about 4mph. His ROUND was 4miles long (according to geomap)...
The marine was walking at 4mph BUT you have to remember he has to stop regularly to get the post out of the bag and top stuff the rubbish through peoples letterboxes.... and the paths up to the house ARE NOT included in the Geomap..so perhaps 6 miles was realistic...

AND NO I'm not a postman or a member of PO management, just someone who can listen and observe!

BTW a good well balanced Panorama prog...

Except the postie's route length was estimated using a pedometer - so will have included his walk to each letter box.

I'm not anti-postie in any way - I just thing the programme wasn't well balanced and hadn't done simple sums to check. They could have properly measured the route with a measuring wheel instead of a pedometer, for example.

You're still getting it wrong - The 4mph average speed is between the houses. A 4mph average overall would mean running between houses!

TNT and the like must be laughing themselves silly every evening.

They take the cherry and the icing and all the nice filling too and leave the final part to ER's foot sloggers to deliver the crumbs. I'm sure that was not in the privatisation plans.

No I'm not 'getting it worng'

as a simple sense check, it is a valid comparison.

Marine 'claims' to do 4 mph for over 3 hrs - tells me approx route is 12 miles

Postie claims 6 miles.

Something, somewhere is wrong - which is what sense checking and estimating with simple rules always uncovers bullst.

Take a guess...?
