I have just purchased a 944s2 that is fitted with 17inc 996 alloys. Tyres are front 205/50ZR 17 and rear 255/40ZR 17. Continetal Contisport Contacts fitted that will need changing shortly. I don't drive hard so comfort and quiteness are of importance to me when driving, mainly on motorways, with good stereo on.
I'm considering the same again or Contact2 or Dunlop 9000's.
Any advice on what pressures I should have in the current set up?

I have Toyo Poxy's on mine and am not a happy bunny - too much yaw in the side walls under load

had some dunlops on my 944 turbo - good in the dry, less happy in the wet but that was the turbo as much as anything

Goodyear Eagle NCT's worked well on my old '44.

I have used Avon Turbo speeds, not the ultimate in grip but good value and reasonably quiet, 17 " rims will be noisey to a point anyway as design was for originally 16" and noise eminates from handy hatchback 1980" era..
I run an excellent early turbo and have stayed with 16 " rims as original, worth a look are the michelin or bridgestones, though no tyres are that special my in wet weather experience and the main thing is to remember your performance and its mostly fun.

Not tire related, but I just wanted to congratulate you on your acquisition of a 944 S2. This particular model is one of the best packages Porsche ever built, all said and done. Yes, the 968 is faster, but more complicated, and some don't like the styling quite as well as the S2. Like I said, all said and done, with all of the research, development, racing, etc., that preceded the S2 version of the 944, this has to be one of the all time best developed and best performing packages ever executed.

For what it is, it is one awesome piece of surgical hardware.

I ran Goodyear Eagle F1s on my 944 and they were superb tyres. Good grip, excellent in the wet and lasted pretty well too. They also make a really good imprint in snow.

As a very satisfied 944 S2 owner I agree, but driving it at anything near or below legal speeds is an overwhelming pain in the a**e. This afternoon, for the first time in 30,000 miles I almost fell asleep at the wheel. I think this car is too much perfect for its own good.

I had Pirelli P7s and then Bridgestones both good but Bridgestones had the edge IMO.

It's just so smooth to drive you find yourself drifting way over the speed limit without really thinking about it, on a wave of lovely midrange torque

My S2 did 20,000 motorway miles on Pirelli P6000's and I was happy, but then tried Continental Contisports and found them much quieter. I currently have Dunlop SP Winter Snow tyres on (came as part of a S/H wheel deal) and they are even quieter - but I don't think they'll last long as they are possibly a very soft compound

My lux is on p6000s and they are garbage imo which is a shame because I thought they were great on our mondeo and also on my old s3.

My car came fitted with Pirelli P-Zero Direzionale on the fronts and P-7000 on the rears. Don't know quite what they're like on the limit as I've not done a track day, but they seem ok - then again I probably drive like a granny

Eek! Having different tyres on the front and the back _can_ lead to 'interesting' handling characteristics.

I suppose I ought to chip in with my traditional "S03/Conti/Pilots are all well and good for fat cats who wallpaper their houses with fresh fifty pound notes, but for those who get through tyres quite quickly I recommend Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s"

There's a new Kumho called the MX which seems to be selling like hot cakes to the autocross crowd in the states, but it doesn't seem to be on sale here yet from what I can see...

Bad mix!! P7000's are crap on Porkers, P0 fantastic!!
This is the wrong mix, even by Pirelli standards. P0 Direczionale are part of the P0 system and are designed to displace water for P0 Asymetricos on the rear.

So I suggest you trash the P7000's ASAP! If you need any help, let me know.....
