Unfortunately we lost Georgie our Great Dane on Friday from a massive heart attack. No warning and a complete shock to absolutely everyone. Leaping around like a lunatic one minute, gone the next. Seconds.

Those that never met her, you don't know what you missed. She was a gorgeous 'little' girl who loved her walks, her doggie friends, chickens (for tea), cuddles and belly rubs.

We had a fantastic year with her (well almost a year - rescued her on the 23rd Dec last year) and would not have wanted to miss a second of it .

We are heart broken that this has happened to her, and us, this close to Christmas again, as we lost Louis (our Dogue de Bordeaux) on the 13th last year.

The house is absolutely empty without her, I would post up a couple of pics but the stupid work intranet will not allow me to log on to any hosting sites!

If anyone knows of a Great Dane looking for a good home feel to either pm or post here, we would be sorely tempted but please - not too old - we are struggling to go through this quite so regularly!

Many thanks to our friends (many on here) who texted/called and shed a tear with us.

Bye Georgie - Miss you.

Sorry for your loss chap. When you lose them it's like losing a memeber of the family.

Sorry to hear this - I really feel for you, having gone through this twice very recently myself. Jake, who died last month, would have been 11 tomorrow - a reminder came up on my phone this morning.

Absolutely crappy thing to happen, but sadly part of dog ownership. Still was not prepared for it to be like this though.

Thats awful, sorry to hear the news.

It wont help now, but at least there was no suffering on the dogs part.

Saddened to hear it. I have a rescue Great Dane myself and know how much they can worm their way into your life and heart. I wish you the very best, and am sure you will find another rescue dog when you are ready. Sadly, Danes are frequently rescue dogs because people do not realize how big they become or how much they eat.
Best of luck.

Sorry for your loss. I know a lot of non dog lovers think we are all crazy, but the pain of losing a much loved pet is very real.
I still have my moments when thinking about losing Bex very nearly a year ago. Chin up.

I'll quite openly admit that I cried like a girl when lost a kitten to cat flu.

As a non dog lover I would agree with this, but I wouldn't belittle the feelings in any way, I'm sure there's a genuine attachment there that's hard to be without if you're a dog / cat / pet person.

I'm sorry for your loss, and I know we're gonna have to go through similar before too very long.

But you gave her the best "last year" that anyone could hope for, and thats priceless. I'm aiming to do the same with mine.

Sorry for your loss, we lost our white Boxer Beano in September to cancer, and we still open the door to the utility room in the morning expecting him to greet us.

Although he was his own unique, lovable character and can't be replaced, circumstances don't permit us to get another dog at the moment, and it does make it a lot more difficult, especially those moments when the house is empty and you realise he's not there to keep you company!

Wish you all the best

Really sorry to hear of the loss.

I still miss my Great Dane. They're probably one of the best dogs to own and you soon notice when they're gone. I feel for you, buddy!

Sorry for your loss, we have had dogs most of our lives and when they go sometimes it´s worse than losing anyone else in the world as they live with you every hour of every waking day when you are there.

Only time will heal for another, and one will come looking when you are ready.
