Hi there I'm new to the forum scene although have been using the classifieds and news sections for many years on pistonheads. I'm looking to buy a Gallardo spyder in Jan/Feb although would be happy to leave a deposit from now for the right one, I'm looking for an 07 onwards in grey with either red or Arancio interior and most importantly the lifting system. If anyone out there can help it would be much appreciated and I look forward to getting more involved once I actually have my dream car, thankyou. Thomas

It may be possible to retro-fit the lifting gear. I've certainly seen it advertised for sale. This would widen your options, but please double-check !

Cheers Andrew i'm lucky enough to have a friend who's a technician for HR owen sports car division and he's said it's possible but would be too expensive through them, do you recall where you saw it advertised as it's something I would definetly consider? Thankyou Thomas

Sourcing that colour scheme isn't going to be easy, assuming any exist in the UK. If so, won't be many. Best of luck though.

Yup, it was Clarkson's old car, owned by a PHer

Afraid 5k would be too much for me would be cheaper to re-do driveway and avoid speed bumps! The grey one with arancio was available in worcester last month with low miles and nice little orange touch on wheel lip, it didnt sell through ebay or pistonheads as I think it was little pricy for a private seller compared to others available from dealers. If its still available start of next year I will definetly have a look as im guessing the seller is going to wait until after xmas to re-advertise and hopefully it has the lifting system. Thanks for the input guys

I asked around a lot about retro-fitting the lift gear, and couldn't find anyone who had actually done it. This was only in the UK, so maybe it's been done on the continent, or maybe it's an urban myth...(that it's ever been done - I accept that the kit can be bought as a spare part).

Are you sure you need the lifting gear. Mine does not have it and never had a problem with speed bumps etc. I guess if your drive is awkward then it maybe a must.

My old car was Grey with Orange interior, it ended up not loking so good but that's another story!

On that one I didn't have the lifting system, my new one does but I have never actualy used it.

What makes you convinced you need it?

To be honest I just felt it would be really useful mainly due to the replacement cost of a front bumper and the fact I hate slowing to a snails pace when going over speed bumps. My driveway entrance is standard as in it's just the dropped pavement most people have that I was worried about especially when reversing out but from what you guys are saying maybe it's not an issue?

You reall have to cane it into something to get the bumper itself, there is a metal aluminium strip under the bumber which sticks down about an inch, that's what you catch if anything.

Also, you can't really drive along with the lifting up so you're going to be slowing down anyway.

For dirveways maybe you might use it, never needed it myself, but on the road you'd never slow down before a speed bump, put it up, go over it and then put it back agian, so I'd think about it.

I thought it lowered automaticaly at a slower speed than that.

Plus it looks like a motorboat with it up, you can't drive round like that, it looks ridiculous!

Seems 08 Gallardo Spyders are circa £100k and 09 LP560 spyder with same milage are £150k.

That's a big premium, one is being over valued or the other under valued in the market IMO.

Think that's a bit more than a stretch! Afraid I'm not rich maybe if my numbers come in?! Anyway think I'm going to forget the lifting system as to be fair there are so many without it that still have bumpers so it obviously isn't the problem I was anticipating so all I need now is the colour combination, thanks again guys fio all the advice it is genuinely appreciated

Lifting system £4400 + VAT to retrofit.

Really isn't essential unless you have a real camber issue with the mouth of your drive?

I've never seen Grey / Red. The Worcester car you mentioned was in our workshops a couple of weeks ago. There is an 09 plate Grey / Orange car in Birmingham (last 08MY car we had new) but I think they want to much money.

I've an Orange car with Black&Orange Interior coming next week on a 57 plate, and a Grey with Black car on an 08 plate? PM me and I'll send you the details if you want.
