Ford Explorer suspension misbehaving

After my Ford Explorer returned from its last MOT it felt as if the wheels were going to fall off if I hit a bump or tried to turn a corner at anything over 50 mph. Enormous vibration through the steering wheel and very scary! The vibration has since settled down but I now have an occasional knock from the front suspension and some bouncing when I hit any bump/pothole. The MOT garage has no idea why - can anyone shed any light on this please?
