Registering a car without a chassis number. How?
Discussion
Guys
I am looking at buying an old alfa spider from Circ 1971. However the chassiss number has been ground off? the owner has had the car for 15 months as he took it with another car that he purchased at the same time..
Anyway how would I get the car registered? I am waisting my time and money?
Help please!

regardles of what amount you pay for it, if the car was stolen x years ago, and its identity can be proved then its not yours!
Run away. There is NO reason why the chassis number has been ground away, apart from to hide somehting very wrong- its identity, or a serious crash/cut n shut.

The car is all wrong - it's either nicked or is a write off.
That is the way the law will look at it -They used to take a slighty more relaxed stance, If you could prove ownership and the previous owner would admit responability for selling it to you, you would be let off the hook.
Probably be left with out a car and out of pocket -
With no official I'd it's not tracable, so it could belong to anyone (not you). Some one in the past should have insurance write off paper work / v5 or a crime number with out it your stuffed!
If you put a new vin plate on it and m.o.t. it then becomes a ringer much worse than just stolen! if they tie you in with other people or the vehicle value is to high you will get hit with conspiricy or grand theft etc... etc...
With kit cars you could make an I'd plate up and get it sva'd to produce a log book - If you do it with a normal car they could Q plate it if you have all the paper work.
In your case you would probably be offered a cup of tea while they call the police.
If it's too cheap it is not right and you know it - whats worse it possibley could be some ones much loved car on here, why would you encourage theft?

That maybe so - but he said it had been ground off!
I know of - not a friend. Some chap who bought two bikes of a chap who told him it was all good!
What ever this situation was, it involved chassis numbers, He even had paper work that he thought was legal. Any way he took a bike for an m.o.t. and the police got called, apparently this bike had a one off exhaust and an owner later Identified it?
I do not know the whole story - but I met this guy a few times: bit of a wimp, soft.
He did 1 year in prision, served only half of a sentence for conspiricy to commit freud or something like that he knew very little about what he was getting hiom self into. Wasted his inheritence on a conman. Now suffers from depression and doesnt work! Silly T##t
