Has anyone here ever attempted to match the 0-60 times claimed by subaru (just out of curiosity), i have STI with PPP, whose claimed time is 4.6 secs, but have heard that it doesnt make anything close to this. Was wandering if anyone has made close to the stated figures
There are plenty of clips on Youtube which demonstrate that you can get better times than the factory claim.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6qP41Ld3B8

0-60 between a newage UK WRX and STi is pretty close as std despite the exra 40-50bhp of the STi.
You'll find a PPP WRX is a bit quicker to 60 than the std STi due to a 100kgs difference in weight and the 2 WRX gear changes v 3 STi gear changes required to get to 60.
Manufacturers quoted Std WRX (bugeye 218bhp) qtr mile figure is 14.8. As soon as i got my bugeye wagon i stuck it on santa pod. Once i striped everything out, had just qtr tank of fuel and got my launch spot on i managed 14.3. That's not bad for a 1400kg car.
I have no idea what it is for an STi.

I have a 2003 Sti with PPP and Jolly green monster remap to 326bhp. Using a racelogic Performance box (the same one Evo mag use) it ran 0-100 in 12.9 and that was with a fairly gentle launch in first to give 0-60 in 6.0 (0-30 in 2.8 when Evo cite 1.8 for a full bore launch). I would say that there was easily a second that could come off that 0-60 but I have too much mechanical sympathy to find out! Prior to the remap and with a slightly more aggresive start it did 5.2, still some way off Subarus 4.8 claims.
Cars like the older P1 have great 0-60s due to the 5 speed box requiring only 2 changes but if you see the 0-100 they not so good.
I much prefer in-gear testing as a comparison such as 30-80 or 50-70. After the remap it was running 50-70 in 3rd in 2 seconds, quicker than an RS6.

I think this is a case of how much marketing speel 0-60 times are. In reality they only represent how much grip and how much power you can put down and to a degree engine dynamics and power delivery.
I suspect some of the best results in an Impreza will be to bounce the engine off the limiter at WOT and side step the clutch. Assuming it holds together it'll delivery the goods. But this really is abusive behaviour and the clutch, gearbox and engine can all suffer.
This is partly why he US guys like na V8's and even automatics. It's much less abusive to deliver consistent good launches.

I'm told my Scoob has 314bhp and after timing that run a couple of times (and asking a few mates to verify) I clocked between 4.3 and 4.6 seconds, 4.5 being the most common. Feel free to double check... or come out for a spin :P
Edit: Not that I'm going to abuse my clutch in the same way again, hah. I'm not a barry who explores 7500rpm daily

Looks fast. What timing gear are you using? I could hear a couple of beeps in the background

Start saving for a new Gearbox now lol.
Just the standard factory setup as far as I know. The gear shift indicator is set at 6600rpm but as you may have noticed I chose to ignore that for the purposes of the run.
So apparently this fella's running at 314 bhp but interestingly when I had it up on jacks it's only got a Prodrive backbox, and apart from that is a standard 265. Well, I've barry-ed it up with a dump valve and a silencer delete.
Not planning on racking the car like that again, although I'm not averse to a little spirited drive on a lovely sunday morning.

Only asking because if you're using a stop watch and a mate to verify it's easy to be a second - half a second out, especially as you would need to accelerate to 66mph or so on the speedo to reach a true 60.
