Spotted this morning on the M3, red LHD 993RS, could have been a lightweight as the number plate was RSL. It looked amazing and it was clearly being driven rather than wrapped in cotton wool as it was dirty.

Anyone here?

It was C5 RSL, it's the first 993RS I've seen in the flesh and I want one!

Ah in that case it was the car that belongs to ####################.

He/she is actually selling the car to by another from me. However I think he/she is keeping the number plate for the new one.

Very good point Piers - An easy mistake to make but a dangerous one bearing in mind the current spate of thefts.

I think Domster should edit the name out of the post to be honest.

Don't suupose any of those nicked GT3's have found their way back to their rightful owners?

Another query that springs to mind is have Porsche agreed to resupply owners of the limited edition GT3RS that went missing, or are theft victims having to pay the going market price including the current premium.

Thought there were two specs? - you often see ads describing them as either "Lightweight" or "Comfort" spec. Are these not official factory designations?

The standard RS is sometimes referred to as Lightweight, with Touring/Comfort and Clubsport specs being more girlie/hardcore respectively.

Technically I think Mel is right.

Ahh, I see. And is the clubsport same as RSR? i.e. the one with the big wing?

I think this confusion is linked to fact that the '72 RS was available in 2 distinct versions 'Lightweight' and 'Touring'.

The 993RS was also available in 2 versions: Basic (MOO2) and Clubsport (MOO3) which was called RSR in UK only to avoid confusion with 968 Clubsport.

Clubsport (MOO3) has many changes to MOO2 to make it even more suitable for motorsport - most notably 'big wings', roll cage, no interior trim, but also different gear ratios, single mass flywheel etc etc etc.

Basic (MOO2) was available with all or any of the options which make people think they are looking at a mythical 'Touring' or 'non-lightweight' ie Sport Seats, aircon, airbags, elec windows, rear seats (very rare and desirable!).

I think this is right!

Thanks Piers -I think you're spot on! Never thought of that.

According to my 1978-2001 M series option code breaker, M002 is 'Touring version' and M003 is 'Group N GT1'. FYI, M001 is Carrera Cup and M005 'Racing Car'.

M208 is for Iguana -trailer coupling....

Hi
The factory official wording is as follows.
Basic version (M002) a strict two seater registerd for road use.All comfort and convenience components have been sacrificed in favour of a higher power to weight ratio. In technical terms, the 993rs (m002)version is designed for use in motorsports, but can be upgraded with factory options.
Clubsport version(M003)which can also be used on the road in some countries, features additional safty equipment for motorsport use,ie roll bar, seats, harnesses, battery isolator etc
The engine & running gear are identical on both versions except for slightly revised gear ratios on the M003.
The only factory official rsr was in deed made for america and japan class gt3 racing in 96,such as mini lemans and daytona .These are very rare cars with only around 20 being made, with 360bhp and (narrower(25mm) arches like the gt2 bolt on arches, and the same spoiler package as the clubsport and not the gt2.They were also not street legal in any country.
Cup cars are differant again with series production number and chassis numbers.
Burzel.
