I am thinking of moving from the Gallardo Spyder (pre 560-4) to F430 Scuderia. I have tried 560-4 coupe but didn't fit. I guess it has less legroom and headroom than the spyder.
I will do about 8000 miles per year including trip around Europe (Italy etc) in the summer but not everyday car.
I would like any advice regarding the Scuderia. Specifically:
1) What is the paddleshift like to live with as I have always gone for the manual option?
2) Is it very "hardcore"? I have owned a Noble and found that fine as "normal driving" car.
3) Any specifics I should look for when buying?
4) Are prices likely to drop dramatically when 458 arrves next year?
5) Anything I have missed.
Many thanks

Fine to live with if its not your daily driver.

2) Is it very "hardcore"? I have owned a Noble and found that fine as "normal driving" car.

I would say more hardcore than the Noble but everyone has different definitions of the word, so best way is to drive one.

3) Any specifics I should look for when buying?

Makde sure it has the LED Steering wheel as a friend bought one without and he has been struggling to sell it on as most of them have this. Oh and the stripes!

4) Are prices likely to drop dramatically when 458 arrves next year?

I cant see prices dropping below 100k for a white, considering the 360 Challenge is still commanding pretty good money and the 458 Scud will be after the Spider is made in 2011 so maybe 2012 who knows.

5) Anything I have missed.

Rosso Corsa with the yellow calipers! Personal preference!

wasn't the 360 strad a fairly limited edition, whereas the scud was punted out in as many as rari could shift?

i certainly don't remember scores of strads sitting in rari dealerships being offered up for less than list within a year of launch.

The biggest financial recession since the 30's didn't happen during the CS's lifetime though did it to be fair. Only around 80 or so Scud's had arrived in the UK during 2008 from memory and not a huge amount more came in in 2009 (Mr Tremlett may come along with accurate figures). Quite a number have also been exported during the recession so UK numbers aren't as high as some people like to make out.

The CS was 'cheap' at the time where the 430 scud was expensive. Now dont shoot me down but an 04 CS was about 130k new where a 430 scud was 170+. I liked the scud but it cant be 50k better can it?

If you added the cost of the brakes alone to a normal 360 the CS was a 'bargain....

recession?... oh you mean the part where the rich got much much richer and the poor got shafted... good job for ferrari that the poor people don't buy their cars.

Many thanks for the helpful comments. There seem to be a few for sale at the moment. Looking at either rosso corsa (with stripes and yellow calipers!!) or black. The black with silver/grey sripes looks good in the flesh. BTW what does "T3d1 area in" mean? I have seen it on a few specs but no idea what it means.

Prices are expected to harden by up to £15k in the Spring with long delivery times on the 458 the market will be looking for the next best thing. I spent 2+ Weeks in Europe with a couple in a 430 Scuderia and they got on fine and though the Car was great, the only problem they had is the turning lock is poor requiring a couple of go's on some of the hairpins on the Stelvio smile

From memory T3d1 refers to the centre fabric of the seat which Ferrari referred to as "3D". It's the section of the seat that has what looks like a net/mesh covering.

The turning circle on the Scud is much, much better than the supertanker helm of the Gallardo wink

Should have got them to spec the optional quicker 'Monaco' steering rack Mark biggrin

Hope you are well.

I have just taken the plunge and bought a Scud which I am delighted with:

1) What is the paddleshift like to live with as I have always gone for the manual option?
The gearbox is excellent, easy to drive even in traffic and when driven hard very very capable.
2) Is it very "hardcore"? I have owned a Noble and found that fine as "normal driving" car.
Its fine as long as you feel like driving, definitely not something to eat the miles more to devour them!
3) Any specifics I should look for when buying?
Steering wheel with LED's and stripes are a must for resale (already stated) other than that try and get a highly specced car as spec doesn't seem to effect price that much.
4) Are prices likely to drop dramatically when 458 arrves next year?
I think Scud's will harden, they are a VERY rare car in the UK and the ultimate Ferrari for people that really like to drive.
5) Anything I have missed.
Mine is in Black with Black calipers and i LOVE it, its so much classier than the brash Yellow callipers on a Black car (I think)!

Let me know what you end up with and enjoy!
