Thinking of getting a PS3 or 360...

Don't want to start a war on this but which is the better console? What i want to know is which 1 will stand the test of time (forgetting RROD and the like). The PS3 is also a Blueray player which is a plus but am i correct in thinking that it's processors are more powerful than that of a 360 and will be exploited more than the XBOX over time? Help me please

Unfortunatly a can of worms I have a ps3 and will tell you to get one. Online is free, it is a blu ray player, yes the processors are better too. For me it was ideal. I have had mine since release and not had a single issue. Xbox people will say that their range of games makes up for other shortfalls and the RROD is not so common on newer units. You must decide

I have a PS3 and 360.

PS3 Pro's

Console is much better made. No DVD tray, pretty silent running and very rarly goes wrong. Plus you get a lot of extras as standard, built in Wifi, blu ray player, any blutooth headset is compatible and the conrolers take standard USB leads to recharge (unlike the specialist powerpacks for the 360).

Cons

The Playstation network is a bit hit and miss depending on the game you are playing however it is free so beggers cant be choosers.

360 Pros

Xbox live works much better and has a larger gaming network. You also get the odd decent title thats ported from the PC (ie Left for dead etc) so if you havent got a gaming PC you dont miss out.

Cons

Earlier consoles sounded like a dyson and died quite often. The new Jaspa chipset seems to have solved the overheating issues and they run much quieter. However the DVD drive is very loud. Also because it still only uses DVD games do not fit on 1 disk and need to be installed on the HDD (Forza 3 for example).

At the end of the day look at the exclusive titles on each system and make a desition from there. I went with the PS3 first because all the exclusive titles on the 360 came out on PC with extra bells and whistles so didnt see the point.

Its only one game and is hardly a disadvantage if you've got an Elite.

What about the installations most PS3 games need before you can play them? Equates to the same thing really.

Treehack it purely depends on what YOU want to do with it.

I've got both of them, before I bought my 360 i'll admit I was a big Playstation fan boy but my PS3 hardly ever gets used now and when it does it's more as a Blu-ray player. IMO the Xbox has a far superior range of games available which is the clincher for me.

From a game developer point-of-view, the 360 is better (better graphics hardware, better CPU for games). Saying that, most games are identical on both versions.

I have both

if you want to play games online the Xbox 360 is better

if you want to play BlueRay and use it as a multimedia station the PS3 is better


PSN sucks, there is a reason it is free
XBL is much slicker and worth every penny

RRoD is not an issue, in my experiance it is ALWAYS delt with quickly/easyly and at no cost to the end user by MS

Sony are awfull for customer back-up/support

If I had to chose one it would be the 360 no question

Can't comment on XBox, but I found Sony were great when I had a problem with my PS3.
