Hello fellow horologists! biggrin

I'm about to press the button on one of the above beauties, but as I've procrastinated for so long, the £/€ rate is now against me. Couple this with some Stowa price increases and they've become a lot more expensive... That'll teach me!

So as it's now a more significant purchase, I want to make doubly sure I'm not missing any similar alternatives at the same (£1k<) price point? (I'm looking at the roman numeral version in particular).

I just want to make sure I've not missed out anything glaringly obvious?!

Thanks all!

Andy.

There doesn't seem to be much about at that price range in the Marine Timer style. Plenty of Flieger derivatives (witness Sinn, Damasko etc) but nothing like the MO.

You've either got to consider the used market, or bit the bullet I fear.

I'm wearing mine today. It doesn't get much wrist time but whenever I wear it I wonder why not.

Thanks for the input chaps.

Stuart, it was trying on yours at btap that finally lured me to snap one up!

Although, browsing the Stowa site today has thrown up this little beauty!

Funnily enough I've just been looking at the Seatime myself. Not convinced by the carbon face on the Prodiver, but I really like it.

I also think that this represents great value for €730.

Currently waiting for mine to arrive next month, I went with numerals, matte finish, dark croc strap on deployment.

Particularly wanted a hand wound movement and white face. Had a look round and couldn't find anything that floated my boat, certainly not for the same money and support.

Tried on a IWC Vintage Aquatimer on Saturday . .. . now that's nice, but can't justify that kinda money at the moment, I've bought the MO for the long term, but also so I can get my current IWC serviced. Can't wait for it to arrive.

Bite the bullet . . .

You won't be disappointed. Mine sits on a dark croc strap and deployment. Suits it best I think.

I haven't seen a brushed one in the flesh, but my thoughts are:

- Brushed: less prone to scratching, but not quite as well suited to the style of the face and hands. Brushed is more of a Flieger/Diver style finish IMHO.
- Polished: err, well, the opposite of the above.

Considering the history of the design, the pocket watch it's taken from is a Marine observers time piece, a working watch . . .therefore a working finish could be considered appropriate, it really is personal choice of course.

Personally I have a thing about shiny timepieces, although I know the MO doesn't fit in this category, but some of the new Breitlings are repulsive, shiny shiny lumps. The MO is much more subtle, I'm trying to articulate my dislike for shiny timepieces.

With a leather strap, shiny watches are much more acceptible, but when it's the whole thing it just becomes a shouty shouty thing . . .

I do concur, that if you look at the MO as more of a dress watch then the non matte finish is more classic. I fully intend to wear mine a lot as I'm shirts for work . . .

I'm after a divers watch next . . . Sinn's are calling me smile

The only real alternative is a Dornbluth, but you're talking 3 x the price.

I'd get the brushed finish case.
