What are the things that stick in your mind from way back when?

After all of the build up leading to christmas, what was the thing that you pestered your parents for, and can remember unwrapping with the delight that oh my god, i finally have a............................

Highlights for me have to be the year when santa bought me the action man tank, and the year when my granddad bought me my Crossman BB gun (still going strong).

What was it for you?

The year I got my bike (a racer), hidden behind the living rooms curtains.

My remote control truck is right up there as well

This year I expect my 3 year old will be going loopy when he receives a paddle-ball game - it's the simple things at this age fortunately!

My fisrt Scalextric set. I can't remember how old I was but I remember refusing to open any other presents untill Dad had set it up and then playing with it non-stop for the rest of the school holidays.

Ooooh tough one.

Either my original Optimus Prime with trailor! That was awesome, I was the first one in my school to have one and I was like a God...still got that bad boy somewhere.

Or my Tyco Super Turbo train, like a Scalextric, but a train, and it could jump too!

At the age of around 11(ish). A huge box of electronic 'junk'.

I also forgot this:

The best cassette recorder with its Star Trek style single function controls.

Life was a much more fun affair in those days.

A tiny tears baby doll - it cried and everything. The dog ate it within about 24 hours of me opening it. I found the life sized realistic baby on my bedroom floor ripped apart and in bits, limbs everywhere cry As a 7 year old it was quite horrific.

Mum said she'd replace it, never did. Was gutted.

After that probably my skateboard same year, remember spending hours on it with my brother.

Commodore 64 from Boots. Had a light pen with it and games such as Bounder, Suicide Express and Monty on the Run. Good times.

Sindy doll house.
It was huge (by doll standards) and even had a lift.

p.s. that is not my house, my mum gave mine away over 20 years ago.

You sir, have excellent taste!

Me, stunned! Three messages in the one present that stands out in my mind. Spent a whole xmas day building that whilst all the neighbours were popping in and getting steadily more pissed around me as the day progressed.

Must have been about 10 or 11 years old!

Mmm.. now does anyone else every have the Tijauna Brass Band record as their memeory of every xmas as a kid?

sorry for the huge photo, but the year I got this (my dad blatantly bought it for himself... I was about 2 years old!):

We moved onto Scalextrix a few years down the line when TCR started to dry up.

Then many moons later, he helped me build and race this:

My Adam and the Ants Prince Charming LP when I was 6 years old. It was one of the first times I'd actually pointed out something in a shop saying I'd like it. It wasn't wrapped up as Mum and Dad were afraid we'd damage them when opening them (my sister had Shakin' Stevens)

Come to think of it, i had a slot car set one year as a joint present for me and my brother.

It used a spring that went around the whole track, and you could use any matchbox or dinky toy car you owned, by sticking a pin on the underside so it engaged into the spring, and off you went.

Loved it to bits, but the noise it made was amazingly loud!
