I need a little help from the Ford experts on here.

My GF has an R reg Ford Fiesta (it's her first car). It's been generally fine until recently.

I noticed a few weeks ago (during the period of heavy rain the UK had) that the car was misted up inside, despite having not been used all week. On closer inspection, it became apparent that the boot floor was soaking wet, along with the rear footwells. I removed the mats and boot carpet and dried the carpets out as best as I could what with them being glued to the car and that.

I then set about trying to find the leak using the awesome power of the hosepipe. I thought I had traced the leak to the rear wash-wipe and electrical connector on the bootlid. I sealed them using some silicone sealant and left it at that, with the hope that general driving with heaters on would dry out the last of the moisture.

However, the inside of the car is still misting up some 2 weeks later. The boot is bone dry, and the rear footwells are getting there. When I checked this morning, the condensation in the car was so bad that water was dripping off the sunroof and onto the handbrake area, wetting the seats and the carpet around the handbrake, which has now developed mould spores to top it all off!

Am I missing a leak somewhere here, or is it a case of simply waiting for all the water soaked up inside the car to evaporate and dry out before this nonsense stops?

Oh I forgot to mention, when we bought the car, we realised that the previous owner had glued the sunroof shut, presumably as it leaked. It doesn't appear to be leaking, but I couldn't say so for sure.

Cheers in advance! Hope that all made sense! smile

Being an old Ford there is probably a hole in the floor pan or the inner sills are rotting. Could also be one of the door seals or as you mentioned, the dodge sunroof. My Escort had a hole rot through the top of the bulkhead, as a result, water soaked all the way through the carpet too the boot! Id be pulling out all the seats and carpet and checking for rot/shot door seals.

That thought had crossed my mind. However, the car is pretty sound, rust-wise, with only a little on the rear arches. For what it's worth, it flew through its MOT last month (before the leak reared its ugly head). I'll take a look anyhow and see what's going on down below!

Ive just had one of these in at work for a water leak. It was a MK4 and I completely stripped the interior including removing the dashboard. I was told that the bulkheads were a common place for water to come in and right enough when water testing, water was dripping into the car between two body panels. The water then spreads through the carpet and settles in the lowest point of the car, which are the rear foot wells. The windscreen seals are also another point where water can come in.

It could just be that you have found the fault and the sound proofing under the carpet is still holding water. It took forever for it to dry out. Dont know if its of any help.......I hate water leaks with a passion.

Thanks, it is helpful. I had heard that the bulkheads were a common place for leaks on the Mk4, however, I've no idea if I can leak-test them without removing the dashboard.

I do suspect that the damp carpets are not helping the steaming up issue though. I just need to be sure there are no more leaks!
