When (barring any disasters, touch wood etc) I manage to get an F355, it will most likely be parked on the street here in Fulham, London. Is it worth buying a car cover? (I've heard they can actually damage the paintwork) and if so, anyone have any recommendations assuming this is the way forward?

Presumably, it can't hurt to keep the car dry, and although not as good as a garage, it will at least give it some protection from the elements, and maybe make it a bit less conspicuous, especially of it ends up being a red or yellow one.

For the sake of £130/month I wouldn't dream of leaving it on the street permenantly.

It will quickly end up getting tatty through exposure to the elements and parking "kisses" let alone any vandalism.

Let me know when you're ready to start looking. I'm hopefully getting mine back tomorrow after having just spent £2k on a big service.

If you can't garage it, save your money until you can buy or rent one. Have a look at: www.parklet.co.uk/

I would have thought car covers used outside would attract more vandalism than not using one.

When i put my old 6 series into storage a few years ago i went and bought one of these car covers for out door use - as the car was being kept outside but under a car port/canopy thinggy. Well, after a few months moisture had built up under the cover, started to get at the paint on the nose of the car and gave it what could only be described as pimples. Just to add, when i put the car into storage the cover was removed at (semi) regular intervals and not just left there.
Now that i've bought the Cerbera, this is being kept at a friends place on their drive (thank you so very much guys as i know you'll read this at some point - you really are a legand !!! smile ) and i haven't invested in a car cover due to what had happend before. This time i'd much prefer it to get wet and dry naturally.

Just food for thought for you.

Car covers are great for in-garage use as long as you buy a good quality breathable one. Just make sure the car is spotlessly clean before putting it on.

i've had a look on that site and a couple of others the other day. there were a couple convenient for me at £130pcm which have gone frown on the plus side i saw an underground space even nearer me for £100pcm! i've emailed to enquire, i'm just hoping it wasn't a typo! if it's for real, i might get it immediately and keep the porsche in there while i'm looking for the F355!

thinking about the pure economics of it though: say you spend £160 pcm for an underground space in london, which is the going average for where i am. that's £1,920 per year, which would cover rather a lot of paintwork restoration from parking kisses wouldn't it? i've actually found that where i live, the nicer looking the car i drive, the more people avoid it when parking
