New markings on M4 J8/9 WTF?

Came across the new markings on the roundabout over the top of the M4 at J8/9 today, what the hell is the point of them? All they've done is hatch-out the inner lane effectively making it a two lane roundabout but what on Earth for? I've been using it for about 25 years and although the traffic is heavy during rush hour lane discipline isn't a problem there and all this will do is cause road rage! Traffic planners eh? What is it about them, tell me, do they go to college to learn how to fk up the traffic flow 'cos that's what they always manage to do. Chaos will happen there now I assure you.

At least its got markings. The roundabout at Jct11 is a joke at the moment and you cant tell where to go or which lane goes where.

They could really do with sorting the junction, even if it was just to make a lane that went from M4 (London bound) directly to the A404 I think it'd help hugely. Traffic planners are just retarded IMO.

That being said I think lane discipline is shocking on the roundabout if you're heading from the M4 (Wales bound) to the A404 or A308, only really an issue at seriously busy times though.

The most sensible thing would have been to build a direct link road (rather like at the M40 J4) from the A404M to the M4 London bound going under the existing slip roads, if you look the carriageway (grassed over) is still there from when the M4 turned left and ended at the A4 by Maidenhead Thicket.
