I try not to act the big I am - but my wife tells me I do it all the time. I can see why it might be annoying, but an incident yesterday really pissed me off, so I started being the big I am.....

I was on a bus....Yes I know, sometimes it happens though.

Single decker full of white collar workers and Christmas shoppers ready to go to work or shop at a retail and business park.

Bint boards and the driver has an issue with her ticket. Its the wrong one. She then kicks off.

The great British public - now late for work - just tut as she continues to kick off. One man points out that she is making us all late....it doesnt work.

The driver - poor bd - is doing his best. He is being courteous and very patient.

Then she starts threatening him with an official complaint about his conduct and generally abusing him. She was a white colar worker little forties busybody type not a chav.

Cue me and the big I am routine.

I walk to the front of the bus brush past her and speak to the driver.

By this time I'd learnt his first name as the bint was demanding it.

So In I go - "Jim, I'd just like to say that I think you are a model employee of XXX bus company. Your conduct has been exemplary and you are dealing with this problem using the highest standards. My name is xxxxx here is my business card. I know the managing director of xxx bus company. I know your (MD's name) will be very interested to hear how well you are doing. I would be proud to have someone like you work for me. If this - long pause - woman proceeds with her complaint, call me straight away on my mobile, and I will speak to your MD telling him I am happy to act as your witness. If this - long pause - woman's behaviour has upset you in any way, I am sure your MD will agree with me that she should be banned from using XXX buses.

She huffed and sat down in extreme silence to the glares of the other passengers. The driver grinned - thanked me - and I got a few approving smiles nods etc from the other pax.

We were all very late for work.

Sometimes doing the big I am is fun....

So the moral of the story is act like you're in the right and the plebs around you are wrong and you'll eventually get your way?

If you'd walked to the front of the bus and spat in her face while urinating on her shoes then it would have been a more impressive story. So you got her a free bus ride then as she didn't have the right ticket? Well shows that complaining does get you somewhere then.

I'm sure that sounded impressive in your head before writing it, but if you actually said that you come across as a bit of an idiot. If you were that bothered that you had to get involved in someone else's problem, perhaps you could have just offered to buy her the correct ticket instead. If you do know the MD, I'm sure he would have been happy to reimburse you for maintaining the service of his buses.

I was on a bus in Spain and a woman got on with no ticket. She refused to leave, sat down and completely blanked the driver.

The driver then asked everyone else to get off the bus - closed and locked the doors and called the police, who showed up in ten minutes, boarded the bus and removed her. Driver made up the time on the trip and everyone was happy.

That's how it should be done wink

Fair responses. More or less on a par with the Other half's opinion to be fair.

As for the loser cruiser totally agree - st way to travel but as I was going to be on the beer later and having today off there wasnt another choice.

And she paid for her ticket - she thought the one she had was too expensive.

Its what pisses me off about public transport. Some fker arguing over pennies and holding a whole bus up for a quarter of an hour.

The biggest "i am" on the bus.... what next?

Tallest dwarf?

Best pole vaulter at the old people home?

Surley the biggest "i am" on the bus is the guy that gets on, waves his car keys at the bus wkers, gives them the finger then hops off and drives to work?

similar happened once on a bus from London to Newcastle (I'd just crashed my bike)

Bus stopped in North London somewhere, bloke behind the driver had taken his boots off and his feet stank
refused to put them back on, driver refused to drive, called the cops

bloke turned to everyone else on the bus "do my feet stink?"

"yes" said everyone

cops came and took him away (without boots)
