A little smugness in the snow.
Discussion
I was very happy this morning. Much like the weekend we had the torrential rain and wind. My wife left before me, with me safe in the knowledge she can get to where she is going safely in our Disco 2, and a little later is got in my FFRR which had been pre-heated by remote control to a lovely warm temperature. I set off for work knowing that I would arrive safely in a very capable car. The smugness comes from all the people that bleat on about 4x4's killing the planet etc and the old "do you really need them" bit. Well, today , yes I do, and very likely, you will need me and my 4x4 a little later to drag your car up the smallest of inclines that your hybrid electric eco warrior jap-crap cant handle.
Whilst tounge in cheek, I would like to point out that my FFRR is on the carbon neutral scheme with land rover for 45,000 miles, so I wont start feeling for at least another 7k miles.
A couple of days of snow doesnt really warrant 363 days of 4X4's, but it is snowing, so enjoy it.

A) what happens when you come to the first road blockage?
B) Aren't you lonely at work, or did everyone else get in too?
Me, i'm off back to bed. Struggling to get to work is for mugs. Trust me, the very second you become surplus to requirements you'll be sacked along with everyone else.

I just ask the green police to suggest another car that can:Whilst tounge in cheek, I would like to point out that my FFRR is on the carbon neutral scheme with land rover for 45,000 miles, so I wont start feeling for at least another 7k miles.

1. get out of a 3 ft snow drift 440m above sea level in northumberland
2. tow a 3 Tonne laden car and trailer
3. get me to the water supply on the side of my hill
4. carry my own equipmeent supplies etc from the builders merchants without needing delivery
5. still take me on the commute to work in relative comfort
6. Be a usefull vehicle everyone wants to borrow when they need similar
7. LAST FOR 50 YEARS
Don't get me started about the great carbon con....
The environmentalists who advocate putting a petrol and electric engine in a car, exposing the world to more heavy metals and resource sapping ideas than ever before.
The people who always incidentally change things every 3 years because nobody knows how to repair anything anymore
did anyone see the new environmental kettle on TV the other day????
it has a special dispensor to dispense only the exact of cups reqired into the portion boiling the water? I always thought I sort of did that whan I just worked out when to turn the tap on and off whilst filling a standard kettle.
Whats the world coming too

B) Everyone in
Although you are right, I am surplus to requirements, I would have to sack myself, so I am safe.....for now.
I also enjoyed driving to work feeling completey safe and relaxed with mellow radio tones projected through Harmon Kardon.
Heated steering wheel and seats on, and the car was warm before I got in it due to the auxillary timer. Another lovely feature is the awesome heated screen which cleared the ice in less than 1 minute wihout the need for de-icer.
I am very smug, with not an ounce of mug. The FFRR is the best all round car on the market.

He is in a range rover, its got lots of lovely toys and a very nice heater to keep him amused while he is stuck. B) Aren't you lonely at work, or did everyone else get in too?

His car is capable of making it to work, why shouldnt he not go in?
Im sure that he is aware that 2.5 tonnes is not above the laws of physics but is driving in a manner that is safe for both other road users and himself

I cant wait to get my freeby back from the garage as there should be some snow to play in.

I was feeling really smug too until I saw the red drips coming off the bottom of the front spooler into the snow. Looks like a power steering hose or a connection to the autobox cooler. Not serious yet so we'll get some underbody protection and whip it in to be looked at next week.

I was very amused to see a new shape X5 spinning it's wheels and not able to go anywhere in the school car park this afternoon. The offer of a tow with the D3 made him even more pissed off
In the early hours of this morning there was an abandoned range rover at J29 of the M6. I suspect it had broken down before the snow had started.
I felt sorry for the guy. The only chance to justify the stupid year-round running costs and he's missed it.
First time in the snow in the RR for me yesterday, was awesome. There is a steep little hill near home adjacent a stream so always gets a bit icy there .... used the HDC for the first time, went great with no drama
The RR is much more composed in the snow than the Toerag I had before, I suspect much of this is down to the UHP tyres on the RR opposed to the P-zero boots worn by the VW.
Drive safe all

Yep, great fun yesterday.
Hill on my way to work which is a back route that I always take and gets very icy. Followed a VW Golf up the hill, us both passing 4 cars that had got stuck, then Golf gets stuck, so pass him, then shock horror the Rangie wheels start spinning. I stopped to apply low ratio (already in snow mode) and the car starts sliding backwards down the hill! A bit of panic until HDC kicks in and stops the car nicely. Low ratio applied and the rest of the hill conquered.
Perfect

Smug ...... who me !!!!
Don't know why. That'll take about 150 miles to start producing even the slightest bit of warm air from the heater. And you don't seem to be able to afford a garage.

Heater ....... what heater !!! Thats what a Barbour is for and re the garage please see profile :-)Don't know why. That'll take about 150 miles to start producing even the slightest bit of warm air from the heater. And you don't seem to be able to afford a garage.
