a bit of info:
"ENICAR was founded by Ariste Racine in Las Chaux-de-Fonds. Soon it moved its factory to Lengnau in the German speaking part of Switzerland and started to specialize in water resistant and robust watches. ENICAR had also started to produce its own watch movements, the famous "Rubirotor" is a witness of a time where most watch companies developed their own movements.
A break-through in popularity came when a Swiss Himalayan expedition wore "Sherpa" models that could withstand the most adverse conditions, cold, snow, ice, hard wear. After 1956, the date of the expedition, many more "Sherpa" models were introduced.
ENICAR was also hard hit buy the "Quartz Revolution" in the 70ies and only in the last couple of years, ENICAR started producing elegant mechanical watches again. Mostly using ETA Swiss Calibers."
I've always liked the idea that he spelt his name backwards to come up with the company name.
