The dreaded Christmas lull is starting. Instead of the programmes I know and like the schedules become filled with seasonal awfulness. Since I don't watch ste TV I'm going to need something for some entertainment.

So. I am considering getting a boxed set of something. I like Sci Fi.

Is Lexx worth it? It looks deliciously bizarre - but that could mean it's st. Or it could mean it's wonderful.

Anyone watch it?

Any other bargain boxed sets that might provide a few hours amusement?

fk me, I haven't seen Lexx for years!

It's okay, but an acquired taste. I recommend watching a few episodes before commiting to a box set, maybe there's some on Youtube.

I liked them though, but they are strange. Oh and lots of hot totty cloud9

Thanks for that. I like "acquired taste" programmes and the stranger the better. Totty certainly helps so that's good.

Could the cast act? Was the writing good?

I'll try and see the first episode...the boxed set is £125 or so for all of it.

Patchy, but strangly brilliant. Definately watch the first 4 episodes/movies at least.

Just wait till you get to the scene where she takes a shower. The shower head is ...erm... graphic?

hehe

For slightly more serious and better IMHO Sci-fi how about Firefly or Farscape?

I'd try to watch some before buying it, unless it is very cheap.

It's an odd show, good in parts, and dreadful in others. The sexual angle/plots are almost painfully juvenile.

Seen both of those. Firefly wonderful. Farscape not so bothered by - although I can see it's a descendant of Lexx in some ways.

Need something new (to me) that I can buy complete and watch during the Christmas TV desert...

Indeed. I will look at some of the stuff on youtube..

It isn't cheap. £125 for all of it. Seems like a lot to me for an old show but if you collect the seasons individually it might well be cheaper, oddly.

A freind of mine told me about it years ago I watched a couple because he had similar taste to me. My first reaction was jesus christ this is st. giant fly space ships WTF is this st was something like I said to him.

So I left it. a few months later while not sleeping it was just on in the background I got really into it.

It does take a while to get the humour! There are some really nice sci fi ideas in it.

However its going to be marmite. We can't really tell you. If I were a betting man i'd say you wouldnt like it. It is very cult/niche with more hating than loving

Just watched the "intro" and a 12 minute section of the first "movie".

I can see why it's cult watching. Very bizarre look to it.

It also had something of the feel of Pushing Daisies to it.

The wife immediately decided it would be st. I think it could be bizarre fun...

It had the fit brunettee who went to SG1?

Try Battlestar Galactica. Best serious sci-fi for decades.

Nope. She was in Farscape.

Already seen it - but I agree. Fantastic.

I'm after something "new to me". I'm a sci-fi buff who sees most of the popular stuff - so it's only cult and niche things that I haven't. I've run out of good viewing at the moment so I'm thinking of getting something on DVD.

I haven't watched "Lost" - so that's a candidate. I didn't see 24, for example, so that might be worth it if I find it cheap.

its quite wierd and tends to go from sublime to stupid.

i wouldn't pay money for it unless you know you like it.
