'Tis the Friday before Christmas

and we are feeling very Christmassy indeed in this household. I am going to a friend's tonight where we shall be having music, beer, wine and curry, followed by a lay-in tomorrow morning and then off to the shops for final preps.

At home, Christmas fare always included traditional Estonian specialities like rosolje (red salad):
Per serving:
1 cooked beetroot
1 boiled potato
1 gherkin
A few pieces of pickled herring
1 hard-boiled egg
All chopped small and mixed with enough sour cream to bind. It's a lovely canapé on rye toast with dill snipped over.
For me, Christmas isn't the same without this.

last night was mainly a bitter / rum / jaegerbomb / kebab affair. all i've eaten today was a crap morrisons fry up [it wasn't a date] so will definitely be calling at the takeaway on the way home. i think saag gosht, mushroom pilau, paneer makhani, paratha and maybe a cheeky beer or two.
