The picture was made with the Canon 5D mark II and a 400mm-lens. It consists of 1.665 full format pictures with 21.4 megapixel, which was recorded by a photo-robot in 172 minutes. The converting of 102 GB raw data by a computer with a main memory cache of 48 GB and 16 processors took 94 hours. With a resolution of 297.500 x 87.500 pixel (26 gigapixel) the picture is the largest in the world. (stand December 2009)

Well, I think you mean 1,665 pictures, but anyway, if they'd had a Sigma 10-20 they could have done it with a single shot, and no need for all those pixels. Jeez, how some people struggle with the wrong lens!

near the foreground, slightly to the right, you can see a group of people captured twice. Looks rather weird! hehe

Well, I think you mean 1,665 pictures
I'm guessing as the pic is from Dresden the text was translated directly from German where they use , and . different to us, i.e. 2,5 is 2.5 and 1.234,56 is 1,234.56 - drove me nuts when I first moved over here...
