I'm thinking of getting a pair of GHD straighteners for the missus for Christmas, but tbh I'm confused.

Are they worth the massive premium they command over the other brands like Remington etc?

Also, there seem to be a million and one special editions. Are these merely cosmetically different or do they have better features/quality etc over the bog standard ones?

Finally, assuming they are worth it, where is the cheapest place to get them?

Amazon are still showing in stock. Tbh, I'm not that fussed if I don't get it for Xmas day anyway. I probably won't see her over the period as we'll both be with family.

Rach, what exactly is it that makes them worth the cash?

I'm mates with a Rep for GHD, the margin they make means they aren't exactly value for money.

GHDs are the best, when I bought mine you could only get them off the internet or maybe hair salons.

So, in future, don't tread on your partner.

But if you'd got them the other day from Amazon you'd have been able to buy them for £59

I just did a chuckle out loud in the hairdressers. They get super hot really quickly, easy to manage, actually straighten your hair not like some of the cheaper ones. I use mine everyday.

Let me explain GHD's from a husband's point of view:

You want an England shirt for Christmas. Would you be happy for a £15 shirt from the local market or rather have what you really want from an officially licenced product?

Your woman is the same, Remmington straighteners may well do the job, but GHD's are what matter.

If she wants GHD straighteners, man up and buy the most expensive GHD's you can afford and stop asking for advice on a motoring website.

Or try here:

They have just done a very good job at branding. The one offs usually have a very specific design and dont last very long

Go for the straight up black one. Buy from a reputable source because a fake one could be dangerous.

Salons in the know arent goin to be using GHD's much longer. They have upped the temp to 250C and peoples hair is geting frazzled. Especially if dyed or bleached. http://www.dbhair.co.uk/cloud-nine-hair-straighten... thats the future apparently. Same guy that started GHD as far as I know.

I think Santa Claus is bringing me these for Xmas
I have been using straigtners for years with no success- used my friends GHD's last year and the difference was erm, remarkable, quite honestly.

So top of the list for this year was GHD's.
I will say one thing, be very careful of fakes, make sure you stick to the main website and look out for the fraudulent sites, you will know these as they are selling pink and purple 'GHD's' for about £60.
Don't pay less than £88 for a pair, likely fakes. I know I have researched
Oh, and Quidco do discounts on certain approved websites.

If you need links I will look up for you.

Yes, watch out for fakes. My friend bought some from the internet, they stopped working after a couple of weeks - she returned them to GHD asking them to fix them only to discover they were fake.

They have been well branded true but they really are fantastic - I used mine most mornings - well worth the money and the kudos you will earn by getting them for your missus.

GHD, "there is no alternative" (according to the mrs)

Friends women have been through just about every brand known to man then ended up buying GHD anyway

Anything else, quite genuinely, is false economy
