Ah engine frozen and drove car help

Hi guys done something really stupid yesterday was rushing to work not realising that car had very little anti freeze in it.Got about 4 miles down road and temp crept above normal level sits at 82 went to 95 pulled over expansion tank pissing steam and water everywhere.Towed back by AA felt rad pipes totally frozen .Took pipes off run loads boiling water through till eventually unfrozen all plumbed back filled system But 1 prob coolant wood go up and down then rise right bk up and blow out(air in system?) and two temp got to about 85 but fans not kicking in as usual.Could not smell any exaust gasses in exspansion tank checked dip stick oil looks fine what could be the prob.Oh by way my rad was leaking so going to order new one on monday a new one on wayThe timing could not be worse i just so hope i have not done any serious damage could i have stuck thermostat or broke water pump?Any help guys wood be great

hopefully it's just an air lock, leave it standing and eventually the air will rise to the top.
Don't run the engine until you are sure the cooling system is working properly otherwise you risk roasting the heads. can you get the car inside so it can thaw out, I would then suggest you pressurise the system using a bung and a bicycle pump to find ant leaks, hopefully it didn't get cold enough to push out any core plugs.

The system will need bleeding, pull the top small pipe off the radiator and see if any air comes out, run the car up to temp with interior fans on full heat. let it settle and cool, take top pipe off rad again see if anymore air escapes. Leave it overnight in the garage and see if level drops on header tank and keep topping up header tank as necessary, mix 50/50 antifreeze/water for UK winter temps.
I think you posted a while back about changing coolant pipes, i assume you have done this, pressure check system for leaks some hose clips may need tightening up some more now that the silicon hoses have compressed a little.
When you fit new rad just follow the same bleeding procedure, i think once all coolant leaks are fixed with new rad the car will be running fine, i doubt cylinder head temps got high enough to do any damage, the ECU pulls back power to protect the engine when it gets into the danger zone.
