Hmm, only had the car for a little over a month, and I think I may have my first real problem.

It has developed an intermittent misfire when it is either very cold or very wet. I was wondering if this could be something to do with the water that pours into the engine compartment every time you open the rear lid?

It'll be going into the Lotus dealership to have this looked at under warranty, but I was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems?

Oh well, I guess it'll going in for the warranty work sooner than expected, the engine MIL is now on.

I can't say I'm very impressed. After six years of impeccable reliability with two different Honda S2000s, my first Lotus has let me down after one just month...

That's a mapping issue I'd suspect, don't worry Ecu reflash should sort that all under warranty

Don't worry,

You’re going to get little teething problems as it's handmade not like your Honda's, it's a totally different sort of Car

Yikes, I was hoping for a slightly less worrying few years of ownership!

Between the misfire and the engine MIL, the car is obviously undriveable. I've just contacted Stratstone Lotus in Stourbridge, and they have very kindly arranged to pick the car up on Wednesday. Top marks to them, they were very helpful.

Anyway, the car is great overall, it makes me smile every time I drive it (well, apart from today). Hope they can sort it out without any hassle.

It will be fine, make sure they give you a breakdown on the work completed, if possible ask them to show you the Ecu printout (If this is the problem) explain to you via the print out what test’s and work has been carried out

HI Jovver

I've not had a single problem with mine yet (touch wood) though I haven't driven it in the wet for any length of time. I'm sure they will sort it but it's the being without it that would bug me!

Did you go to the opening of the new Lotus Stratstone in Stourbridge (Stourbridge is my place of birth) I missed it, I was going to go, what are they like to deal with as I may get mine serviced there?

Regards.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll be sure to get a breakdown of everything they do. It's under warranty so I suppose I shouldn't worry ...

Unfortunately I missed the opening of the new dealership, but my first impressions were really positive; everyone I spoke to were really friendly and helpful, so fingers crossed their service people are just as good.

I'll let you know what they are like as soon as they have fixed it!

All sorted, water was apparently getting into the coil packs and causing the misfire. Hmm, what a rubbish design, I can't believe water pours onto the engine every time you open the bootlid!

I can definitely recommend Stratstone Stourbridge; they picked the car up, diagnosed it quickly, and will deliver it back to my home on Tuesday. Really good service.

Not No4 by any chance? Nearly posted to suggest this - quite a few (me included)have suffered with this but mine had been running around without the engine cover on for quite a while. I've ended up replacing the coil pack as I think the water had damaged it somehow.

If No. 4 is the end one that is partially exposed beneath the cam cover, then yes it is was. It's a very odd design, and the whole water running into the boot is really quite poor. I do wonder if driving rain will get into the engine compartment when the car is parked up...

Hopefully this is the kind of thing Lotus will focus on improving in the future; the cars are great, but the attention to basic details like this seems to be a little lacking.
