Even BBC News24 had coverage of this global warming phenomenon, which according to the chap being interviewed is the largest snowfall since records began in 1885 and unprecedented to see as early as December.

"CNN meteorologist Karen Maginnis said the storm -- known as a nor'easter -- could rival the Knickerbocker blizzard of 1922, which dropped between 28 and 33 inches of snow in the D.C. area."

Apparently many parts of Europe are also experiencing near record breaking low temperatures at the moment.

We had about 11 feet drop on Oswego a few years back in just under a week. Most of that was over a weekend as well. Phenomenal stuff. Lake effect snow we get every yar, which makes this area one of the most heavily snowed in the US, height wise. The snow is less dense, however.

Been pretty cold here the last week. Around 10 farenheit at night, and maxing at about 20 in the day. Only snowed a touch, however.

I'm in new york airport (still) and can confirm that it was fkING brutal. Delayed my flight by 26 hours, bulldozers were storming down the motorways at about 50mph, it was quite something to see!

At least they use bulldozers, don't think we can afford any in the UK

Never, I repeat NEVER head to new York in winter. The delays from that fking set of airports is unreal! I'm only 200 miles from NY, but I always head elsewhere as an airport hub.

I didn't think it could snow at such low temps.

Well what does Russia get when it's -30C in winter, it certainly doesn't rain blocks of ice ... but tends to snow.

interesting question, the Met Office said at the end of November that "Barring an extremely cold December, 2009 is the warmest year ever etc etc."..how cold has December been, globally?
