I am just being a sad anorak and browsing the trafficscotland website.
It states the A80 has been closed since 19:39 both directions due to snow and will be for the forseeable future!!

Was also looking at the camera at Newhouse and the Eastbound traffic has been stationary for a good while as well!

Sometimes in this type of weather I feel that its better to take the "back roads" as you will usually have a plan b if things go wrong. God knows what it must be like being stuck on the A80 for 4 hours in the snow on a Sunday night!!

Only just checked a resident into the hotel I work in, in linlithgow. He said he was sat there for 5 hours yikes. He said that he was having to wait for a couple of jack knifed lorries to be cleared. Once he was on the M9 he said it was virtually clear though.

I've never seen main/local roads as bad as they were last night

Main road through Bishopbriggs looked like the surface of a frozen lake T/C light on car was permanently on

Road was a sheet of wet ice dont know what happened whether it was freak conditions but I honestly have never driven on as bad a suface on a main road and this was about 7:00pm

Son went to Newcastle with School yesterday (seemed a good idea when they thought of it) got a running commentry all way home on crashed cars jacknifed lorries blocked roads.

BIG respect to the Photoflash coach drivers who brought the kids back in one piece

Is someone on this forum associated with them?

I came back from Glasgow City centre just after 6 last night after picking up my daughter.
The M80 had snow on the outside lane, and 1 line of tracks on the inner lane.

At the Kirkintilloch exit, there was a queue, when it moved a bit the queue could be seen all the way to Auchinloch.
The Corsa in front of us turned back onto the motorway where the slip road splits, he nearly took his exhaust off on the kerbs.
A lady in a Merc CLS was slewed across the wrong side of the road, with her hazard lights on, she should have been out of the car.
Further down the hill, a Corsa was stuck nose first against a banking, a Punto was nose first in a field, and cars heading up the were crabbing sideways.
As I know the back roads, I took an executive decision to divert off the main road, to be met by a lady in a Toyota saying 'don't go down that road, it has a ditch in it, we were stuck for half an hour!'
What she meant was, if you try and turn a Toyota on a single track road with ditches either side, you will get stuck!
On the back roads, the snow was fresh, so traction was fine.

At Lenzie a 1 series had to take numerous run ups to get up a shallow slope, an Asian guy in a yellow Ibiza shot past at speed, overtook the BMW and forced a guy on the correct side of the road, off the road - arse- if anyone knows him give him a kick from me!

The conditions were bad, but let's face it, so was some of the driving, and based on what the Toyota lady had done, you need an IQ in excess of 15 too!

i drove up the A9 on sunday night
left glasgow and 6 1/2 hours later i was in inverness
the roads were clear untill i got to perth then it got messy
on a stretch of dual carrigeway somewhere there was a lorry parked with its hazards on, the leon in front of me stopped so i did as well, i then realised the leon was stopping for a quick break so i tried to go around him but i nearly got stuck, after letting everyone go by i managed to pull out in third riding the arse off my clutch

i was overtaken by a fair few daftys especially a woman in an avensis est who nearly slid into me

other than that the journey was pretty pain free well other than having my splitter ripped off my bumper and not realising untill i was just outside of inverness
trying to drive through 4 inches of snow with a 3 series that has a bumper that is only 3 inches from the ground might have had something to do with it

im finding it quite funny seeing all the abandoned cars up the hill on my way home
