The Cooper S has just had a big service and the main dealer says that one (of the two) brackets holding up the rear box has gone. The box is still holding on ok but I'm thinking of replacing it.

That was until I found out that they wanted £115 plus VAT to replace it.

Any experience of the likes of Quick fit doing it instead?

I had my MCS fail its MOT when one of those brackets was found to be missing. Thankfully it was covered under warranty then so I got the bracket fixed for nowt. Can't believe they want that much for the part though eek Have you tried all the specialised mini places rather than kwik fit and halfords? THINKMINI and others on www.totalmini.com might be able to help. Failing that get in touch with Derek Woodman MINI in Blackpool they might offer a trade price on the part.

Hi Bazza, I have the same issue with my R53 MCS at the moment, Kwik Fit would not touch it with a barge pole - strictly exhausts, tyres and brakes only.

I had this with my 51 plate S, was told by my local exhaust and tyre place that will fix anything under the sun that the bracket was a BMW only part, and they'd be happy to fit it for me if I could get hold of it from BMW.

I had this problem on my 52 plate s. Apparently its a common fault that the brackets corrode. I went to my local BMW parts department. Bracket was about £20 and managed to fit myself. Was relatively easy but quite time consuming so i would advise to try a private local mechanic

Thanks for your replies. I've decided to book it in to the main dealer for this Friday.

I'd have a crack at it myself but I'd rather pay 30 mins of their time than spend a day of my own time faffing around and missing out on time with the kids.

Had the new bracket fitted today. Difficult to comment on how good but its on and the car has been washed so that's good.

In the end it cost £82 inc VAT - the main dealer cut me a deal as previous service done there wasn't good and I'd had to complain about something.

Thanks for the replies
