Spotted a very nice Legnum on the classifieds here, and for some reason I'm quite taken by the big barge.
Anyone owned one and would like to give their thoughts about them? What's fuel economy like (obviously it's going to be bad compared to the diesel Lancer I currently drive)?
So, any thoughts appreciated.

Good cars if you can live with the fuel economy, great fun on the b roads yet very comfortable on a mototway slog just put it in auto and leave it there, then when u want some fun there is always tiptronic!!
Haven't i seen your legnum for sale some where?Legnum is a fab motor, it likes its fuel sadly but only has a small tank anyway.
Had one and loved it!! great in the snow, still sticks to the road.
Might even buy another one?
No one has commeted on nissan stagea so i guess not the 4x4 estate to buy?

On my second Legnum VR4 now, and can highly recommend them. www.clubvr4.com worth checking out for more info, and it's a well informed helpful forum.
Generally been impressed and finding it hard to choose a suitable replacement. The manuals have much better economy, I live in London and do mostly 70% urban driving and a bit of motorway and get about 20 - 22mpg. But bear in mind these are 10 -12 year old large-ish 250 - 300 bhp 4 wheel drive cars.. what do you expect.. ?
They handle great, I've track day'ed mine a few times and it's very good, nice firm but comfy ride, and quicker than most other cars you'll come across daily and big enough for most things, odd jobs, work stuff etc... Insurance isn't too bad either. Brakes and suspension can be easily upgraded, and the boost upped a bit (as I've done), but re-maps are quite pricey as it's way more involved..
The only other downsides are the servicing is really every 4500 miles, engine oil and AYC (rear diff) but on a turbo car that's pretty sensible anyway.
Go and test drive one and see what you think, quite a few owners club cars for sale at the moment, so they'll be better maintained..

How much power would they make with
1) slight boost inc
2) remaop w/wo exhaust
3) turbo swap ( which turbo(s)
Reliabilty wise with/without mods eg engine, trans, diff etc
Just boost you'll get a nice bit more, but you may as well do exhaust/decat, as I've got.. and you should get a fairly reliable 270-290 ish.. You'll need a few more mods like downpipes, bigger intercooler, fuel pump etc for any more power.. 1) slight boost inc
2) remaop w/wo exhaust
3) turbo swap ( which turbo(s)
Reliabilty wise with/without mods eg engine, trans, diff etc
Re-maps are pretty much only just being sorted now as it's only just been worked out which factory ECU's are flashable, or get a true standalone ECU (alot more money)
Turbo swaps are possible, a few have tried and succeeded but there is a space problem as the engine is transverse and any bigger turbos will cause bulkhead or radiator issues..
The transmission on autos or manuals is pretty good, but the auto gearbox and AYC system do need the fluids looked after to keep it all reliable. Also these seem to be ok with most power upgrades so far, but no-ones really pushed the power much past 400bhp on standard gearbox/transfer box/diff.
I'd just buy a decent looked after car, up the boost tad, fit a better exhaust and enjoy.. !
