Right, i'll probably sound barking mad, but does anyone recall the name of this series?

It was on kids BBC in the mid to late 80s. From what i recall it was about a girl who was either visitng family or returned home over christmas (i think, it was certainly wintery). The house was a big old mansion, and it was haunted. I recall a rocking horse being important, and most oddly a scary haunted tree, that i think was destroyed in the final episode. It was set either in the 1920s or possibly victorian.

Hope somebody can remember it.

Andy

nope too old. I know it existed, but my memory of it is really vague, but it's bugging the hell out of me. Definitely 80s, not dodgy bear costumes smile

Rather dodgy early CGI if I recall correctly. It was early days for such techniques back then (1988 or '89).

It was but it was back in 1984 so the BBC are forgiven! Wiki calls the CGI, Quantel Paintbox and chroma key effects. Don't know what they are, but having sneaked a peak on you tube its not so undated as the whole story is set in the 1920's.

I don't know what kid shows are like today but there used to be some really good ones yrs ago. I used to watch mainly bbc but am I right in thinking that Chocky was an itv series.

I remember ?Moonfleet as well.

I think there was a program with a girl called ?Minty based on her seeing things from the passed, I could be completely off track though!!

The Children of Green Knowe, wasn't that about ghosts of 2 children who died of the black death or during the English Civil War and the girl (in the video clip above) moves into the old house as a WWII evacuee sees them, talks to them or sees their lives? A bit like the Amazing Mr Blunden film time story?

Moon Dial! I loved that too, as well as Box of Delights.

I am now going to trawl through Amazon and see if you can get them on DVD!

Glad i could help people relive those fond childhood tv series smile

Apparently they are making the Green Knowe books into a film.

It's very weird how your mind dredges up ancient memories, i think it was brought on by the time of year and remebering watching TV as kid. Ahh great days.

Oooh, a TV nostalgia thread! Some of the series mentioned bring back memories.

While we're on the subject of half-recalled childhood TV memories, I have a very vague recollection of something I saw when I was young and the only scene that sticks in my memory is one where the body of a soldier, in the typical 19th century redcoat tunic, is found dead in bed in a room which had been bricked up. I think it may have been a big old house.

Sound familiar to anyone...? A longshot, I know, but the PH TV massive may just come up trumps!

Not ringing any bells yet, which decade (if you don't mind me asking!) are we looking at?
