When the first climate change refugees will start arriving and how many there will be? How will we say no if it is our fault that millions are being displaced by flash floods and the like because of warming?

I hope whoever is in charge doesn't let them in! They'll be all homeless boat people when they arrive and a few weeks later they'll be wanting sky TV and sending child benefit money back to Africa or wherever they're from. Cheeky blighters. If they had got their industrial revolution in first they'd be sitting pretty right now. I doubt they'd be sending us any money, no sir.Malc
How's it our fault anyway? Why on earth can't they move up a hill or built houses in trees? Don't mention those buggers in the Maldives either they've had plenty of warning.

Well I couldn't have looked very hard. Here we go:

How would it be 'our fault'? We're a tiny nation with tiny 'emissions'. And it isn't even proven that these emissions cause warming or rising waters.
I'm not aware that we have any immigrants who have come due to environmental concerns. Financial and healthcare reasons are far more common. I suspect these won't change in my lifetime, as politicians tend to be as gutless as they are useless. But we may yet decide that our immigration policy is unsustainable.

I think it is irrelevant what we decide about our immigration policy if we adopt wholesale the notion that the industrialised West has precipitated a humanitarian disaster.I'm not aware that we have any immigrants who have come due to environmental concerns. I think it is irrelevant whether the above is proved or not. If there is sufficient political investment in the idea it will be adopted into policy.
We are a tiny "rich" nation and on the global stage that is now increasingly the forum for policy making we are a significant part of the historical problem as it is perceived.

Seriously though, after recent events I hope MMUGW will get put with the other MU things like the tooth fairy. Then you won't need to worry your conscience about sending them away.
With nohopenhagen offering nothing, the nothing having no reciprocal legally binding agreements and no compulsory independent inspections, and after climategate on top of a major recession, the US Senate may yet effectively send them away when the Taxman Malarky Bill is next voted on.They are well aware that more than two real jobs awill be lost from each 'green' job claimed as the 'benefit'. Spain's own research on Spain's own faux pas showed that.

Why would we do that? And, frankly, our immigration policy should be decided on the basis of what/who/when we'd like to come. We are already a heavily populated country; we have no obvious need for more people.
