Top Gear to end? Time for something new perhaps?
Discussion
Much as I have enjoyed TG over the years, it is now getting rather stale...................but where's the competition ? Mr Clarkson has now almost become a caricature of himself. Still love his politics though.
Would be good to have a "proper" motoring programme, with some depth, back on the 'box.

Yep, couldn't agree more. It was holding together quite well until it lost the car elements - even the reviews are too diluted now.
Would be great to see a regular hour-long car programme again. I was at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year and that proved there's still so much that's newsworthy and worth bringing to the masses.

I agree, TG is so predictable now, the last episode you could almost dictate what was going to happen next.
Time for something new, maybe a programme about cars again instead of JC making a fool out of himself week in week out.

I love cars but I became rather bored with the last few series, especially the increasingly daft challenges.
It's run its course IMO and it's definitely time for something fresh.
What about a PHTV channel?

Surely you all realised that TG is and has not been about everyday cars for ages, its just a great entertaining programm.
I think the point is that it is becoming less and less entertaining.
I'm quite simple so it has kept me amused for years, this year however.....Get rid of everything and have Clarkson present a motoring show...he would be able to call in support people as he needed them?
I don't care who the Stig is and I also don't care how stupid a "celebrity" looks driving a crap car either...
Give me real world...compare similar cars, compare cars from the same manufacturer, with different specs... like we do in the real world!

I still think the 3 presenters work well together in terms of 3 mates dicking about with cars....
But, I agree there is too much 'non-content' now, for want of a better word, and they should get back to what they were doing best as per the earlier series. SIARPC has to be shelved unless they can guarantee the celebs are genuine petrolheads and are not just coming on to promote a bleedin book/TV show/film/record or whatever as seems to be the case most of the time.

I particularly agree with the point about the celebrities just wanting to promote something (with the exceptions of Jay Leno and Jensen Button) and there is definitely less actual car stuff in there. I'd hate to see it all end though, there have been some very entertaining sections - the caravanning trip, the Scirocco ad, the Belfast Renault review, it just needs to revert to more car/motoringy themes.
I firmly believe that there is a place for a more sensible car show as well as Top Gear - the problem is that proper car shows don't have the mass audience appeal that entertainment shows have. Looks like Fifth Gear is another victim of this problem.
How about keeping the brand going with "Top Gear Middle if the Road" on BBC4?

I can't see JC's own chat show going down too well anyway - it'd just be like an elongated SIARPC portion of Top Gear.
I think the easiest way to perk TG back up again is just to stop scripting so much. Once everybody knew that TG was scripted it seems that they've decided to milk it, planning everything out in advance and acting as if it's spontaneous.
I still like the genuine moments of spontaneuity (I don't know how to spell that...), and seem to remember those much easier than the standard TG episode these days. Particular highlights were the cheap Porsche challenge from years ago, the 996/XKR/6-series on the Isle of Man, and the make-a-Renault-Avantime-quicker-than-an-Evo one.
