Ok so reading specifically that the Z4MCoupe is like a german TVR?

What characteristics have given it that reference?

How many people have had TVRs then gone to one of these?

Why does this only apply to the Z4M Coupe?

Just general questions i had really from reading around. Look like a nice car smile

You missed out 'reliable' German TVR.
Other than, RWD, noise (granted not as nice as a Trevor), power (not as much as a Trevor) and similar drive. Oh..and they look kinda similar:

I'd say a Weismann was closer to a German TVR than a BMW...

not price wise!

i had a TVR, though it was a V8 so not a direct comparison... the Z4MC is faster everywhere, the TIV sounded better... one major similarity was they both have to be man handled to get the best from them... like yorkies, NOT for girls wink

My Z4MC has never needed a jump start, or needed an intravenous battery conditioner, and everything (so far) works.

I wish it sounded more like a TVR though frown

Sorry, don't agree. I actually wouldn't get up to drive a Sagaris. Been there, not bothered about trying another. At the risk of incurring the wrath of the TVRista I don't rate any of them as "proper" sports cars. They can be made to be so but you have to spend the money on them IMO. The Z4MC may be less hardcore but it is significantly more rounded and complete. As above, I'd say Weissman is nearer to TVR in terms of ethos but the Z4MC isn't a bad car and many people would drive it purely for pleasure.

I had both at the same time and I would say that the Z4MC was a bit like my Tuscan in other words the Z4MC was not as refined as most modern production cars it had a raw I will bite you feel about it also the engine feel was similar but the sound of the Tuscan is fantastic.lets not get into slagging off TVR they are great cars

Both great cars and both made me smile every time I drove them loved them would have another any day

Because they are talking nonsense! The track is a natural home for the Z4MC, it`s a car that makes much more sense when driven at 100%. The only weak link is the brake fade.

Because some people are full of st... Simples

1. Somehow I don't seem to remember seeing many TVRs going fast at the Ring. Last time I checked there were more that 10 Z4MCs going pretty well that weekend

2. Friend of mine bought a 4.2 Cerbie with 24k miles on and full TVRSH. Did 2000 miles in it at a cost of £5k. This thing was in the garage most of the time and never run right...

3. Yet I have done 44k miles in my Z4MC and they have not been slow ones. The cost - £1.50 for a piece of plastic around the steering wheel trim...

To say that a TVR is a sports car and the Z4MC is a GT is utter rubbish. I thought sports cars were supposed to be fast...

I'm refugee from a TVR T350c, and have been considering a Z4MC. There are quite a few in the classifieds at around £25k.

What are the routine servicing costs like? Tyres expensive, that sort of thing. I was paying around £650 every 6k for a service on the TVR. The tyres lasted over 15k including some track use, and came in at £225 a corner. Would I be looking at a broadly similar budget?

I know you are talking Z4M Coupe but the similarity between the Roadster and my old TVR is apparent ....to me and friends who 'knew' both.

I had a TVR Griffith 500 .... and now have a Z4M Roadster.

I would say it is as similar as you are likely to get.

Both have/had a heavy notchy gearbox.

Both 'feel' a heavy car.

Both are quick (TVR quicker though)

Both sound great - though obviously the V8 in the TVR is the clea winner!

Both will bite easily if you are silly.

Oh, OK so the BMW should be more reliable smile but TBH my Griffith was not unreliable at all. The garage that serviced it were unreliable but the car itself was sound.

Both are involving - something that you can't say about many cars these days.

The tyres are about the same price if you go for 18" Michelin PS2s, or about £40/corner cheaper if you stick with the standard Conti M3s.

12000-15000 miles: Oil service - £200 if you use the dealer network
24000-30000 miles: Inspection 1 - £700
36000-45000 miles: Oil service - £200
48000-60000 miles: Inspection 2 - £900

Ive had a TVR 390, Cerbera v8, Tuscan 4.0 and a T350t and loads of other stuff too.
I think the Z4M is like another manufacturers version of a tiv.
It's not as raw and of course the noise isn't there but the ZM is not nearly as refined as other 2 seaters so feels more like a sports car to me.
I would definitely get up on a Sunday morning and go for a drive!

As an aside my Tivs never broke down and were used in all weathers!

Someones been listening to Clarkson too much smile

Yes it was made in America but realistically that is where it ends - in all honesty if it was american it would be 3 times as large and heavy and full of cheap plastic parts and designed for both left and right hand drive conversions easily.

It certainly doesn't drive like an Amercian car!
