400 miles from home, and need some combi boiler advice :(
Discussion
I'm at the inlaws, it's seriously snowing and has been all day!, however the bloody boiler is broken
If anyone is/ knows a gas fitter, then I'd really appreciate a guide on what to try next. The list of things we have checked and discounted so far is here...

Hope everyone is ok today in the snow!

When was it last serviced?
I don't think it is but...you said that the condensate pipe was free flowing, but have you emptied the condensate trap/ is it full?
Overheat stat tripped?
If the boiler is sparking but not lighting, it suggests to me that the gas isn't getting through. It's not like it lights then dies out which is a different matter.
I don't think the gas pipe will be blocked as it should be a clean pipe (yes!?). You do have to purge the gas when running a new length of pipe and installing a new appliance due to flux/ jointing compound in the pipe, but if the pipe hasn't been touched, dirty shouldn't have got in.

Wondered about the overheat thermostat, but didn't have a multimeter to check the continuity across the stat terminals. Is there any other way to check it?
Emptied the trap, but only had a small amount in it. Removed the drain pipes and checked they were all clean, empty, and not frozen.
It does seem like it has not enough gas, as it just doesn't light. If there was an issue with mains supply, could it need purged again? The installation manual suggests replace either the PCB or Gas Valve.
All was working fine at 11.30am, and error code was on when we got home at 3.30 this afternoon.

If the PCB goes, the boiler normally is sporadic.Emptied the trap, but only had a small amount in it. Removed the drain pipes and checked they were all clean, empty, and not frozen.

Gas valve breaks and no gas goes into the combustion chamber, sounds likely.
Well the excitement was short lived, and its cold again
Not surprising since Glasgow was -7 degrees outside overnight
It stopped again about 4am, and now won't reset.
It's heating engineer time I think. Thanks Gingerbread Man for the advice, it does seem like we have exhausted the options for quick fixes. First check when we find a CHE is the Gas Valve.

PCB board is a common fault on teletext...

Mine did that once, the pressure was really low so I opened the valve for a bit, got it back up again and drained the radiators then it worked fine. Though yours sounds like more of a complex problem than mine was!
Just realised how much of a man I sound like when I put things like that up! I live alone, no choice! I'll happily take in a servant?

These so called efficient combi and condensing boiler are a waste of money.
The time you pay for breakdowns and parts plus retro fitted to older systems
does not mean you get the full benifit.
Many or the parts wear or fail very quickly and internals are subject to corrosion resulting from the condensate.
Many of these boilers dont last five years and cost twice as much as th one you have to replace
The boiler in my place is 20 years old and the only part to play up was the fan got a bit noisey which was cured by a clean and lubricate.
This year I had to replace the diffential pressure switch.
Another thing forced on us by HMG
By a decent conventional sealed and fan assisted boiler in Scotland.
Fit the thing yourself.
Fraser - check the pilot jet.
No flame or poor flame on it will cut out.

Its an electronic piezo ignition, rather than a pilot The time you pay for breakdowns and parts plus retro fitted to older systems

I agree older systems are much better when it comes to maintenance. After 10 minutes with the multimeter checking voltages and resistance on key components, it turns out the PCB is stuffed (£116 + VAT), and the overheat stat is a bit dodgy too (£16 + VAT). Apparently they are a very cheap boiler, and prone to problems. I couldn't get a new PCB as they are out of stock at the 2 biggest plumbing merchants in Glasgow. British Gas are one of the only ones to fit the boiler model, as they are the cheapest available on the market. The good news is that they should have stock of teh PCB on the van.
We have a BG engineer coming tomorrow for a one off cost guaranteed fix solution. Fingers crossed they have the parts.
Thanks to Dr Rick and John Reid for the help

Tempting...

Condensing boilers are the most efficient boilers on the market. They allow huge energy savings compared to conventional boiler versions, and there are countries beginning to require the use of boilers to be of the condensing type. Conventional boilers convert 60% or less of their fuel into heat. The efficiency of new condensing boilers are above 90%.
The secret of these boilers is based on their brilliant designs, which are the larger heat exchangers. Heat exchangers ensure maximum heat extraction, and eventually, minimal losses of gases.
Installation should be done by a qualified boiler engineer who is gas safe registered as they will able to advise you on the best type of the condensing boiler fit for your home.
