Brakes not working properly on an E61 - advice needed
Discussion
Since a few days ago the brakes on my BMW 5 series E61 have not worked properly.
Symptom #1: The brake pedal is applied, then released, but the brakes are still braking - seems like the calipers are not releasing. Eventually the calipers release over a travelled distance... until the next time I brake. Process starts all over again.
Symptom #2: The brake pedal is as stiff as a brick - seems like I've lost all servo assistance. takes a lot of pedal pushing to get the brakes to work at all, then they are only partially effective.
The problem is intermitent but concerning to say the least! Sometimes they work fine, other times they display the above symptoms.
Local BMW indy cannot find any faults with car on initial testing (sods law it is not happening for them) but I have left it with them as my wife refuses to drive the car with 2 small kids in the back whilst this braking problem persists.
Anybody had any similar problems? (Our car is a 2004/54 525D manual if that helps).

probably linked to BMW brake assist, which has a feature of dragging the brakes to dry them.
